Here's the work on the gloves. My gloves actually will consist of 2 pairs of gloves: a black set and a red latex set I'm cutting up to give the layered armor look

Here, I'm making purity seals. I cut out a few disks from the foam rubber and glued some velcrow on the back (I'll stick the other pieces of velcrow where I want them after I'm done painting). To give the paper a aged look, I let them soak in some leftover coffee. When they are dry, I'll tape the paper to the back of the seal

Here's the progress on the chest armor. I added a chest piece for decoration and gave it a few coats of plastic dip

As I'm working on the final bits for my costume, the priming and painting has already begun

Here's the start on the boots. These will wrap around my normal shoes with the help of a few straps

I made a 'charm' to attach to the chain on my scroll tubes. Made from plastic and sprayed gold, the charm features the aquilla on one side and the Blood Angels symbol on the reverse.

I finally mounted the fan circuit in the backpack. The complete circuit is inside the pack, with the fan visible from the outside. A switch was mounted on the pack to control the power. I didn't sodder any parts for fear of setting the pack on fire, so I made do with wire caps and electrical tape

A few details:

I'm wearing black longjohn pants and a black turtle neck sweater under the costume to mimic the space marine body glove.

I had all the armor plastic dipped, primed and then spray painted. But the spray paint remained sticky and often ripped the paint off of any other armor parts it stuck to. To combat this, I put a few layers of acrylic paint on top

I needed a pouch to hold my ID and cash, so I rigged a belt pack from the cargo pocket of some ripped up pants I had

I won't have the helmet done in time for the party, but that's fine. The rest of the costume looks good and the helmet is extra. I will continue to work on it for future events

Notes about the 'final' result:

I'm giving myself a B- for this project. The costume did well overall, and people who knew about 40k recognized the costume immediately (everyone else thought I was either Ironman or some generic sci-fi character). But the costume did have a few problems that need to be worked out.

The straps I had to secure the hip and shoulder pads kept popping off. It either needs more velcrow or just needs to be sewn on.

The boots worked surprisingly well. I navigated crowded bars and stairs really easily.

The backpack made navigating crowds a bit difficult. Fortunately, the pack secures really well to the chestplate and never came off.

The costume is warm. I was comfortable outside in 50°F and slight drizzle. I was a bit warm in the bars but never felt overly hot.

The costume is also pretty sturdy. It handled the bumps of the crowd with ease (including a drunk chick who walked face first into my shoulder pad)

I plan on making upgrades on this costume and may post a few updates here and there. I also plan on finishing the helmet when I have some time. Also, my girlfriend was really excited to help out on the costume and see it come together. Now she's talking about 'matching' costumes for next year. Looks like I might be making a sisters of battle costume.....
