Kastor Krieg
In the vein of the previous kitbash thread [ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=260833 ], since I got the new codex and the dragon to go with the stuff from the starter, I decided I want to play Thousand Sons, the coolest looking CSM army for me. I immediately wanted to have Ahriman as my Warlord (no-brainer, really), so I sat down to kitbashing my own one. As we all know, the minis we're most proud of fight best, so a kitbashed Ahriman is due. My Ezekiel and Belial are full of pwning awesomeness when I play them, so this will definitely be what my TS need to outweigh the lack of Overwatch on those shiny AP3 bolters (ouch!). And while I'm at it, I will make myself a nice squad of TS with an Aspiring Sorcerer. Here's what I began with - CSM head (only one in the basic Chaos Marines box!), Warrior of Chaos fur coat along with 10 Kromlech heads and 10 shoulder pads ("Stygian Lords"). http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/6747/15566449596722042095190.jpg And here's how it turned out in the end, after a lot of cutting, GSing, glueing and cursing. The Black Staff is the CSM Tzeentch icon, minus the stripes (I wanted to give them to Ahri, but one of them has broken in half, too bad), plus some bells and whistles (or rather, skulls). I used a cut down to size Tzeentch CSM shoulder pad, the "special" CSM backpack and some WFB scroll/pouch bits, plus a normal bolt pistol in a WFB glove hand (because the Staff is also held by a similar gloved hand). Yes, I know he has two not three sets of horns. And I know he's probably smaller than original Ahri, but the GW mini is too busy for me, especially in the backpack department. http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/4614/dsc0390mw.jpg http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5623/dsc0389ep.jpg http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/4538/dsc0392s.jpg http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3737/dsc0391ty.jpg And yes, that's a Techmarine / vehicle crew (well, look old patterny enough  ) torso, with the cogs scraped off around the skull. Will look OK after priming. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262656-kitbash-ahriman-and-thousand-sons/ Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
A friend made a very good point - the bell and the skull on the Staff will be glued again, vertically, in accordance with gravity. Whooops  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262656-kitbash-ahriman-and-thousand-sons/#findComment-3199699 Share on other sites
Bungicats
A friend made a very good point - the bell and the skull on the Staff will be glued again, vertically, in accordance with gravity. Whooops ;) Hehe maybe theres a stiff wind tell him/her? lol j/k I like the pose and kit bashing as well. The scrolls on the left shoulder and right belt area look a tad out of scale? Maybe its my old eyes though. Either way lets see the paint! Kastor Krieg
I wanted to have him have the Scrolls of Magnus. Big = important. These are, I think, at least the shoulder one, Dreadnought bits. The belt one is with a pouch, WFB mage bit I think. Blue undercoat and KSons with an already completed AspSorc upcoming - stay tuned! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262656-kitbash-ahriman-and-thousand-sons/#findComment-3200016 Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
OK, here's the kSon squad, finished. Mid top, power axe (says "power weapon" in Codex, yay!) Aspiring Sorcerer, surrounded by twelve kSons. Ahriman pretty much invisible in the back, just for size comparison (now, since he's supposed to be on a Termie base, I put his small base on a termie one, giving him "steps" to walk down on and space for the lower end of his staff). http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/5640/dsc0397ib.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262656-kitbash-ahriman-and-thousand-sons/#findComment-3200399 Share on other sites

Kastor Krieg
Painting the kSons begins. Basecoated by spray, with a Teklis Blue equivalent. Then airbrushed Vallejo Air "Azul / Blue". Gave me an incredibly intensive and yet dark blue color, very fitting and very far from Ultramarine / Crimson Fists armor. With golden metal parts they really start looking outstanding and I'm not even halfway there! I got an idea for the clothes - putting the Red Glaze on that blue cloth, but I do not know how it will turn out. I also have some old green Ink I could try and experiment with. Ideas? http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/8235/dsc0007m.jpg http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1833/dsc0008ugx.jpg http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/9516/dsc0009fby.jpg http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5722/dsc0010ba.jpg http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/215/dsc0004wo.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262656-kitbash-ahriman-and-thousand-sons/#findComment-3202672 Share on other sites
