Your opinion on LR gun placing.

With the risk of derailing the topic even further I must say I'm glad to see that there are more ex military personnel here at the fang.

I'm ex Swedish mech inf.

I deeply appreciate all the feedback on gun placement. They will indeed be in the front on my tanks.

Thanks Redbeard...

In my defense I totally got the sarcasm vibe but just wasn't clear on the target...

As I was unsure I tried to be as polite as possible, but being ex military and understanding that the reality makes a huge difference I had to say something.

Hopefully I will learn :jaw:.

And out of curiousity what Cav unit Valerian? I was 6/16 at Knox OSUT and 5/17 Western Corrider Korea Div Cav...

Halfway down the trail to hell

In a shady meadow green,

Are the souls of all dead troopers camped

Near a good old-time canteen

And this eternal resting place

Is known as Fiddler's Green.

Marching past, straight through to hell,

The infantry are seen, '

Accompanied by the Engineers,

Artillery and Marine,

For none but the shades of Cavalrymen

Dismount at Flddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail

To seek a warmer scene,

No trooper ever gets to Hell

Ere he's emptied his canteen,

And so rides back to drink agaln

With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

And so when man and horse go down

Beneath a saber keen,

Or in a roaring charge or fierce melee

You stop a bullet clean,

And the hostiles come to get your scalp,

Just empty your canteen,

And put your pistol to your head

And go to Fiddlers' Green.

Its good to know fellow calvary brothers are here in the fang. I spent 6 years in 7/10 cav in 4th infantry division out of Ft. Hood. I was a Medic with them and found a brother hood like no other. I miss the Cav and some day will meet you all on the Green for one more drink. Sorry for the completly off topic post so to guard from that. I prefer to put the weapons systems in the back strictly for modeling purposes, I think it looks better.

Cheers, Redbeard. I'm not ex-military (since I'm still serving), just ex-Cavalry. There are lots of current and ex-servicemembers all over these boards, though.

No worries, Anaraion, you did just fine, and were obviously polite. Here at the Fang, however, we have to bust on one another occasionally, and keep each other in line. You took your slight thumping with grace, which will serve you well.

1st Squadron, 4th US Cavalry (Div Cav) briefly, then E Troop, 4th US Cavalry (Brigade Recon Troop) both in Germany. A few years later commanded in 1st Squadron, 10th US Cavalry (Div Cav). Many years ago, however, I left the branch to pursue a specialty (functional area).

Fiddler's Green...

Fiddler's Green is a classic; kudos for sharing with the Fang, and thanks to you for your service.

Now, back on topic: Land Raiders are cool, huh? :)

And back off topic... ;)...

A few years later commanded in 1st Squadron, 10th US Cavalry (Div Cav).

Ft Knox? 10th Cav was there in late 80s I know, or was it elsewhere?

Many years ago, however, I left the branch to pursue a specialty (functional area).

Master's in something like international relationships... or SF :)?

To my knowledge 10th Cav hasn't been stationed at Fort Knox, but it is possible that it was there back in the 80's. It was out of Fort Hood when I commanded, and, of course, in Iraq for a portion of that. 1-10 Cav has since moved to Fort Carson, along with the rest of the 4th ID.

Believe it or not, I am a Space Operations Officer. I've never mentioned that here in the Fang, but you're the first to directly ask.

Wow! I'm all kinds of impressed! Thank you for your service!

1/10 (and I think 2/10) Cav "Buffalo Soldiers" was stationed at Knox in the late 80s. I know this as I was stationed at Knox with 6/16 Cav OSUT.

Makes sense you are in Huntsville. I got my Mech Eng degree from Vanderbilt. Been to Huntsville many times!!

Thanks for sharing.

Wouldn't having the guns at the back obstruct the doors anyway? Every time having to swing the guns out so as not to hit them.

Also, with the weight of a Raiders engines, would the forward placement not help to spread the weight a little?

Landraiders and there guns people ;)

Sorry for OTs Max; we moved our discussion over to PM's over the weekend.

As far as gun placement goes, even Berek's Hammer has the guns in front of the doors, and with the Lascannons I don't even need the extra range. This way just seems to make the most sense, and is still aesthetically pleasing:
