I have exactly a 2000 pt SW only list. I'm interested in taking allies for possible bigger games or keeping it at 2k. I've always been a fan of the Adeptus Mechanicus and figured I'd poke around on the net and see if anyone else had done something similar and have found a lot of Am allies armies. This being BnC and a power armour only board I was unsure of where to exactly put this question.

 

What's the best Codex to use to convert a AM allies choice with space wolves for legal tournament play and does it work? I've so far come across a lot of IG Codex based and very few SM Codex based? If I choose IG Codex and models for a way more liberal conversion set of choices and does that prevent me from posting here? If I choose a SM Codex to use as a AM Army list what exactly does that leave me with? iron hands allies but in red and bleach trim armour?

The AdMech board has, I believe, an exemption from the usual rules on discussing non-PA armies as they're being used to represent an army that occasionally fields power armour.

 

The obvious choices are Guard and Marines - Guard have the Techpriest unit, as well as the 'human' feel that Marines don't really offer - a Marine's 4-base statline doesn't look like an augmented human.

 

Personally I'd put forth the Sisters rules as a suggestion, and not just because I'm primarily a Sisters player. The Tech-guard are meant to have superior weapons and equipment. While the Sisters don't have exactly the right mix (Standard Skitarii wargear appears to be a Hellgun[Hot-shot Lasgun] and Carapace Armour), they do have the increased skill over Guard, as well as bringing power armour, bolters, and masses and masses of special weapons and the odd bit of unique wargear to the field. They allow you to field Knights Errant (Count-As Penitent Engine), Arco-Flagellants (always good for an AdMech vibe), Electro-Priests (Use Repentia rules for their short-range lightning blast) and arcane weapons such as the Exorcist and Avenger Strike Fighter.

 

Not to mention an 80 point unit containing four rending heavy bolters at BS4, if you choose not to get the archeotech MML.

Good choice MLA, you can do a lot with the Guard with just a wee bit of imagination; on the off chance you can get some inspiration from it, here's a work in progress Mechanicus list I've been bashing away at for a few weeks(too many options; not enough points :angry:).

Alas I'm going to have to drop some stuff because that's up to just shy of 2k with no anti-air and depressingly little static heavy firepower, but you get the idea, it's mainly about finding ways to approximate the fluff in the rules and making up appropriate names.

What I'm looking to run list wise:

 

HQ IC with a statline and gear list that meets my vision of a mangos admech.

 

Company command squad / chimera

 

3 troops / chims

1 squad of sentinels

2 leman russes

 

Roughly close to 1k if I remember..

 

Then that leaves me with my space wolves running

3 long fangs razor/assault cannon

For troops, are you going veterans or infantry? I know some people might think of that as a stupid question, but it is an important choice. A bare-bones Infantry Platoon is 140 points, the same as two unequipped Veteran squads, and you get Orders and an extra sergeant in that, in exchange for BS4. You also get the same number of special and heavy weapons, but with a morale-boosting Platoon Standard. Plus, they can still take Chimeras, and you get the additional option of special weapon squads and heavy weapon squads.
Depending on what the points come out too on my Admech will determine who's the ally of who but as of right now I'm running 4 spacewolf troops and 3 tar pits of admech troops my hq will be a 40 pt engineseer most likely. I'm just after the AA options of the hydra, the Russ's and 2 squads of sents (penitent engines models converted)
