New Night Lords

Recommended Posts

After seeing the new Chaos Space Marine Codex and the Raptors/Warp Talons I just had to start yet another army (this will be my 5th active 40k army).

After some mulling over some themes I settled on Night Lords with:

1 terminator Lord

5 terminators

10 marines with Rhino

10 marines with Rhino

5 Raptors

5 Raptors

5 Warp Talons

1 Helldrake

1 Predator

This seemed like an appropriate force for speed and terror.

I made a test piece with a Space Marine I had kicking about.

Any tips or suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thanks! Looking to assemble the first unit of Raptors tonight.

How would you suggest painting the lightning? I don't think it turned out that well.

It needs building up in very thinned paint, probably three or four layers with less thinner each time but thinner lines each time too.

Each layer a lighter shade or the same? I was thinking Altdorf Guard Blue -> Calgar Blue -> white.

Doing it on 41 models, three vehicles and a plane/dragon/daemonbird will be fun.

Had another go at the lightning. Still not satisfied but it seems better than before. Miffed that paint keeps rubbing off edges of armour.

gonna agree with Demon on this one lightning gets easy each time you do it. after 20 years of night lords I learned alot of tricks. as for the issue of paint rubbing off theirs several tricks to that too. i normally dont add mine to bases till after being painted and pinning them to a cork or old empty medicine bottle so I have something larger to hold on to. I've seen other people use dowels to hold their's with. something you may wanna try. Keep up the good work. i think a thin outline of a lighter blue around the lightning may just be what you need to really make your lightning pop.

Just remember to really dilute the paint and build it up in layers where you go over the layers it will get whiter also use a really fine liner brush like a 10 or 20/0 the paint should be almost translucent after you dilute it that way it will give you the glow that they other poster was referring to.

Sorry for lack of updates (I've been busy not painting).

First Raptors are assembled and undercoated (pictures are pre-undercoat as a photo of a black shape wouldn't be very helpful).

I reallly like the poses on the Raptors. I used to play Night Lords but I have fallen to the temptations of the Blood God... I wish you luck in your endevour, brother!

IMHO the acctual Night Lords upgrade pack helmets aren't that amazing. The shoulder pads yes, but the helmets look too.... Cartoonish. IF you just give them to a few certain models, I thik it would be more accuate considering not all Night Lords whee those helmets. HAve you read the Soul Hunter Trilogy or Lord of the Night? They are written by two different authors and both show a different perspective of the Legion, but IMO the Trilogy by A D-B is the best series Black Library has atm. IF you haven't read it, I recommend it greatly. If you make a First Claw like unit or base your army off of the series I shall applaud you greatly.

I shall be watching this thread :P

Thanks for your input, brothers.

HellChyld: Is it an army painting competition?

T0MMY: The Raptors kit is fantastic. You're left with a fair number of arms and heads to dot around in other units. And those power claws...

Lord of Blades: I know what you mean about the heads. I've only put them on about half of my basic Marines. I haven't read the novels but I'll have a look for them when I've got through the mountain of reading materials by my sofa.

Sorry I've been away for so long! Had to pack all of my models up for a move that didn't happen then I started working.

I've FINALLY got something painted.

He's not my best work by any stretch (well he may be and I may just be crap).

I think that all of my characters and squad leaders need names so I'm happy to take suggestions!

More models to come... More to come... More...
