Sons of ...

So whats in a name? I've been thinking on a DIY for some time now.

My original story was that the chapter took the name of their chosen home world.

Then I started thinking. Would a planet hold enough sway over a chapter to have them carry its name.

The name in question is the Sons of Creightos. Originally Creightos was an inhabited Imperial world but the more I think I wonder if maybe Creightos should be a hero from the original training cadre that started the chapter.

After all I stole the name from God of War and played with the spelling.

So what is mind of the liber, homeworld or hero who should Creightos be.

If it helps any the Sons embrace that part of Ferrus Manus that charged straight at Fulgrim on Istvaan.

A planet often does hold enough sway to name a Chapter, though I can't recall any examples right now. It's actually better for them to be named after a planet than a great hero (provided, of course, that the hero in question is neither a Primarch nor the Emperor), IMO.

And I think you can do better than misspelling Kratos. While it certainly does work, I suggest trying again.

Wait, what's this? Scions of Ferrus Manus? And you want "Sons of" in their name? And you're having trouble with letting it be the planet name? FUN TIME!

Consider one of these (though remember that I don't know whether or not any of them are taken): Sons of Steel, Sons of Metal, Sons of the Forge, Sons of the Hand, Sons of Iron, Sons of Magma, Sons of the Wyrm, Sons of Asirnoth, Sons of Purgation.

A few oddballs in there (magma, wyrm, and Asirnoth being references to inspiring parts of Ferrus Manus' backstory), but most of them should be usable. I checked Sons of Medusa (F.M.'s home planet), and that's taken by GW officially with completed fluff (no loose ends to have fun with).

Erasmus: I got the hero idea from the Sons of Orar whom I believe are a 2nd founding Ultra successor, not positive.

Also I want to avoid the obvious for an Iron Hands descendant, Iron,Steel, Ferrum, Ferrus and any such.

I'm familiar with Sons of Medusa from reading up on the Badab War so I ruled that out early.

Ecritter: I agree that Creightos is oddball enough to not give itself away without other clues. The chapter doesn't have any greek culture to it so I think it'll be okay.

Would Sons of Mars or Sons of Ares work?

Mars because of the Iron Hands links to the Mechanicum and God of War (who Creightos became, I believe), and Ares being the Greek version (more or less) of Mars.

Though Creightos could work... He could have been the first Chapter Master to come from the Chapter (as well as the homeworld) and was such an arrogant commander (as well as BAMF) that he renamed the Chapter to carry the name of the world.

Here are some hints. As you know, the Sons of Medusa are named after a planet that they are not based on.

Similarly, while Orar was a hero of the Ultramarines Legion, the Sons of Orar are not actually a second founding chapter, and Orar was probably not ever their master; I think he was dead when they were founded.

DID YOU KNOW, when the tech-magi found a chapter, they use one set of zygotes, like one marine, and then clone it 1000 times? Like, each chapter could have its own genetic founder. Creightos may, if you like, have been a Morlock(?) whe either did not die on or even deploy to istvaan or whose geneseed was recovered even though he died with Ferrus Mannus.

Kristoff:Mars was the Roman god of war I hadn't thought of that. But i would still like to avoid Mars or anything that would be too much of a love affair with the AdMech.

Voi: I had a vision long ago of a Reclusiarch standing before a class of neophytes recounting how it was Ferrus Manus that was the first to lift a hand to strike down a traitor and heretic. Creightos having stood at the primarchs side in that first strike against the foul traitors on Istvaan is a very interesting possibility.

Sorry to disappoint folks, but not mine. Trust me, if I had that kinda skill I'd flaunt it shamelessly. No, I just happen to have a handy repository of cross-over marines in my albums, the God of Warhammer Kratos among them.

edit: found it, the artist is EmaCamU
