Legion Army Lists?

hey.

now that betrayal is out with the first 4 of 18 legions to come and a generic legio astartes army list, I wonder what people come up with. Why so silent?

Maybe we should open another sub-category in the army lists section?

I'd start but my book arrives on oct 22 :'(

At the moment I am using the praetor's ability to use veterans as troops to make a legal army.

I am planning on a large infantry army in the end

Destroyers are dirty and I can't wait for FW to produce sets of bolt pistols to be used with non jump pack infantry. Though I am not sure how they will do so, unless they make dedicated Destroyer models

From what I've seen so far, HH will be the alternative to the new C:CSM(eh) when it come to portraying the non-marked traitor legions.

Iron Warriors:

Siege Breaker Consul with legion heavy support squad (10 autocannons or 5 lascannons)

Legion Artillery Tank Squadron: 2x Medusa /w Phosphex Bombs

2x Legion tactical squad (20 men /w ubergrit), 2x Support Squad

Siege Breaker Squad (still undecided about that)

Contemptor Dreadnought Talon (Forgefiend counts-as in the elite section!)

Techmarine Covenant (why no IC/heavy weapons on the automata?)

Legion Typhon Heavy Siege tank (DAMN RIGHT!)

Mechanicum Allied Detachment (much much more to come)

...even now drooling about book III Istvaan V IW coverage and the abhorrently epic toygasm the siege of terra book will contain.

What are you thinking of arming the support squads with? I love the idea of a 10man flamer squad, but not sure how effective vs legions that'll be. I also plan on a 10man plasma gun squad, using the old space crusade plasma guns (as I have plently of them)

propably 10 flamers in a rhino, rest is too expensive. for some hot plasma death, I tend towards a terminator squad /w combi-plasma homing in onto a nuncio-vox, otherwise there are dreads /w cannons. Support squad /W breacher consul and medusas will crack open anthing melta would be needed for.

I like for my Raven Guard army three Rites of War (while we waiting book with specific rules for RG).

There are pros and contras in my eyes for my style of army. Somebody can have another oppition and it is absolutely normal situation B)

1. Orbital Assault:

pro:

- can use Drop Pods for infantry and all types Dreadnought

- can be used in small format games (1500-2000)

contra:

- Storm Eagle is not dedicated transport and will compete with Seeker Squads in only three slots of FA.

2. Angel's Wrath:

pro:

- the Storm Eagle is dedicated transport

- very fluffy for RG in my eyes

contra:

- cannot use neigether tanks (not very important restriction for me) nor Dreadnoughts (very sorrow for me, I have and I like Dreadnoughts)

- very expensive in points cost, look like available for games 2000+

3. Pride of Legion:

pro:

- veterans are troops choice, it will be possible use most 40K-tactical squads without modifications

- can be used in small format games (1500-2000)

contra:

- Storm Eagle is not dedicated transport (see situation for Orbital Assault)

- Drop Pod is not available

I have not final opinion which way is better, and will try to use different

Well I'll be buying the book when finances allow (curse you two expensive hobbies!!!!) and probably some new shinies but probably waiting to assemble most of them barring Terminators (yay magnets) until a book covering the Space Wolves is actually released, that or I'll make up a load of Bolter carrying Grey Hunters.

Also, Forge World, for the love of all the Legions who love getting up close and personal but not always with jump packs please release a close combat weapons/pistol set. I need hordes of Blood Claws and I want to do it properly, instead of stealing ones from the plastics haha.

Support Squads only have 9 Special weapons. The Sergeant isn't armed with a special weapon, although he can take a combi weapon.

They do have the pistol set now, Clicky the linky. But I can't say I like them very much. Prefer the widowmaker pistol on ebay:

Yeah I know, it just sounds weird saying a 9man squad, and a mouthful explaining the sarge doesn't, besides, like you said, there are combi flamers

I know, I just like being a pedantic git sometimes. I'm surprised nobody is considering Support Squads armed with Volkite weapons though. The Support Squad one is a Heavy 2 weapon at S6. Plus it has the Volkite special rule, where any unsaved wounds automatically cause another wound ( which can be saved as normal ). A fairly nasty firebase unit right there, thanks to the Caliver being the longest ranged weapon available to the Support Squad at 30''. At 5 points per model...

Pretty nasty for lost technology.

I'd swear you were a mate of mine if didn't know better, he's exactly the same way! :)

Yeah I thought about them but getting the weapons is gonna be a pain, and expensive! (actually thought about using the old plasma gun models from space crusade, but figured it might confuse people so will probably leave em as plasma's)

Will definitely be making a Typhon from a landraider and a big momma cannon ( featured on B&C thread as a landraider aeres )

Also gonna need a Landraider Achilles! have been needing an excuse to get one!

Sadly I'm nowhere near you, so don't worry, I'm not that friend of yours stalking you online.

I have to admit, I've been sorely tempted by the Mechanized Assault Rite of War, mounting CCW carrying Tactical Squads ( Despoiler Squads \o/ ) in Land Raiders everywhere. Land Raider Proteus's are only 200 points, and that option is really, really tempting to play.

I know full well that the core of my Sons of Horus is going to be 40 Despoiler marines, either in two 20 man squads or 4 ten man squads. Backed up by a pair of Support squads, whose armament I'm still debating.

So many cool toys to try out in the Crusade army list.

okay, here's my first take:

IRON WARRIORS LEGION

HQ

+++ Legion Centurion + Siege Breaker, Cataphractii Terminator Armor, Thunder Hammer (with support squad)

ELITES

+++ Contemptor Dreadnought Talon: Contemptor Dreadnought + 2x Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon (Forge Fiend model + Hades, midfield)

TROOPS

+++ Legion Tactical Squad + 5 add, Combat Blades, Vexilla, Meltabombs, Lightning Claw (midfield, shields Dread)

+++ Legion Tactical Squad + 5 add, Combat Blades, Vexilla, Meltabombs, Lightning Claw (midfield, shields Vindi)

+++ Legion Tactical Squad + 5 add, Combat Blades, Vexilla, Meltabombs, Lightning Claw (backfield, shields medusas)

HEAVY

+++ Legion Heavy Support Squad + 5 add, Missile Launchers, Flakk, Hardened Armor (behind aegis)

+++ Legion Artillery Squadron: 2x Legion Medusa (behind aegis)

+++ Legion Vindicator + Dozerblade (midfield)

FORTIFICATION

+++ Aegis Defense Line + Icarus Lascannon (manned by Centurion)

-->2000pts

Or you could get the Widomaker pistol on the manufacturers website.

would anyone be kind enough to explain what are the new unit types in betrayal and what they do, to someone that won't be able to afford the book until next summer, but still likes to play with the info in his head? :P
