Chaos Cultists conversions

Not sure if this thread should be here on in conversions discussion, but it's narrowly specific to Chaos, so I think this is much better place. I hope I will not get spawnhood from moderators for this.

So, rumours say we will not get cultists box for another 3-6 month, time to think about some conversions. Hopefully when new cultists will come no one will buy them and GW will think about their next delays much harder.

To convert cultists we can safely use some interesting head swaps from third parties, together with FB Chaos Marauders, catachans box, or even flagellans and DE Witches for Slaanesh cultists. But where can we get arms with autopistols or laspistols? There are places to get some quite suitable pistols:

But maybe you know better options, with arms if possible?

Another place to get arms with laspistols etc is the old Necromunda plastics (incidentally the Goliaths and Orlocks would make great donors for body parts). You might find some on ebay.

I really like these heads from Victoria, and there's a set of backpacks that compliment them realy well too. Thinking about kitbashing some guard/pdf renegades with those and some plastic cadians.

What I'd really like is a mix of male and female cultists, but I've no idea where you'd go about getting the latter.

But where will you get autoguns/lasguns for your cultists? There is only one laspistol in cadian command box, and very few in FW renegades.

Sift through that, plenty to be found.

its also quite easy to do some head swaps on the dv boxed cultists. i also swapped a lot of the ccws with those from the likes of fantasy mauraders etc and the occasional guards man head, gas mask off crews of vehicles of guard(think the valk crews) considering ive around 60 of the bruits its fairly helped.

Weapons are going to be a bit of a hassle for me during my next project too, but with the amount of sculpting I'm going to have to put in, I'm thinking of just starting with the Cadian lasguns and bulking them up a bit (for those of you who have played Mass Effect 3, I'm thinking an end result similar to the Argus or Mattock). Pistols on the other hand are going to be a real pain, though I'm leaning towards the pistols that Gretchin carry. I should be able to get at least 8 pistols out of that box. A rather expensive option, but possibly the easiest.

Nice looking guns on Anvil, not bought any yet but the Heretic rifles and carbines are ideal.

Do you have any idea how much easier you made things for me? Those widow maker carbines are perfect for what I'm planning! I'll make sure to dedicate the next batch of skulls my Iron Warriors take to you.

Edit: Just realised the drum clip can go on pretty much any of the rifles and carbines. Candy store, you have one very excited kid inbound! :)

They might do. Have you seen them personally? I wonder if those pistols will be similar in size to bolt pistols or closer to autopistols for cultists?

Looks like autoguns is not a problem, but what to do with close combat oriented cultists?

Since I'm doing Chaos Daemons (Tzeentch) allied with Chaos Space Marines, I'm doing a mutated mob of cultists. Since I'm doing Tzeentch, psychic powers can explain their guns. I'm running the CCW and Pistol cultists. A box of Fantasy Muraders mixed with Pink Horror bits. I even had some Flamer of Tzeentch Arms to use as flamers. Each cultist has a human arm and a pink horror arm. The human side has the CCW and other arm is horror. Once I get them painted, I'll post pictures.

Tons of lasguns in the cadian box, and I plan on running most of my cultists with auto/lasguns rather than pistols. I figure they're horrible in combat, they might as well plink a few models off enemy units at a distance.

For ccw/pistol cultists I'll probably use empire flagellants. They're usually wielding their ccws two-handed, but I have so many of the small holstered pistols that come in the CSM kit I could easily fix up a whole cultist blob with them. No rule saying the weapon has to be drawn, right? As long as it's on the mini, it's WYSIWYG.

All those anvil guns are scaled for space marines, those rifles and carbines are essentially boltguns with extended barrels and magazines. The pistols will look huge on non-power armour models.

Finding cheap extra weapons is not easy, been playing Necromunda for many years now and converting gangs all the time.

On Yakromunda (dunno if mentioning and linking other forums is kosher - but here goes) there's a whole thread on alternative minis and weapons:

And off that lot the ones that cropped up a couple of months ago and are a good scale and are the Shapeways gangers and weapons (but not cheap).

I think forgworld weapons are the way to go. Not cheap, but not as bad as a lot of the possibilities. Another option is catachan lasguns. Just clip the ammo pack off and glue in some dragonforge ammo belts. Looks very autogun. Cheaper than forgeworld, but weird muscles.

Personally I'd use "count as" for the lasguns and shotguns to count as autoguns etc, and use Necromunda models for Cawdor, Rakskins, Scavvies and Redemptopists muddled together and sharing a common paint scheme (i.e. grimey and dark). Perhaps even Goliaths.

Shame the older Savvies don't exist any more on the GW website, but you might find them elsewhere.
