Shuggnuggath
So I finally have started painting up these guys. I finished the Sorcerer and his Disc of Tzeentch. Also some fen beasts that I converted into animated molten metal monsters (counts as obliterators). I also painted up some flamers of Tzeentch. I assume showing daemons is kosher... Shuggnuggath
I decided to sculpt my own Daemon Prince. I'm using the wings from the Isle of Blood griffon for him. I was going to use the griffons head but then I decided it would be a challenge to try sculpting the head myself. There are also some pictures of a painted squad of converted Thousand Sons and the squad sorcerers and standards. ninjasuperspy
Holy moly that Daemon Prince is amazing! Great conversions throughout, but that guy is something else. Rune Priest Ridcully
Just Wow, brilliant paint work, makes me want to strip and repaint mine..again. How did you do the sculpting? I have been thinking of trying my own daemon prince, but not sure how to do it, though I was kinda hoping to go for a similar look (ie giant in power armour, jackal head, staff/halbeard in one hand, other gesturing, possibly wings or a giant disk/throne. Shuggnuggath
For the Daemon prince I started with a 'skeleton' made of styrene rods. I then bulked it out initially using Milliput. For the details I used greenstuff. I wanted to do a Daemon Prince that actually looked like he is wearing power armour. For the most part I'm happy with the armour and its just a question of adding maybe a few small details to finish it off. I was wondering if the head turned out okay of if I should try again? The Colossus
I love your sculpting! That Daemon Prince is awesome, it invokes images of a Lord of Change, but in power armour! Rune Priest Ridcully
I would kill for that level of ability in sculpting and painting. I think the head looks awesome, but remember, you need multiple daemon princes as all your charecters could become them. Shuggnuggath
I have played a few games with the army now and so far most of the actual killing has been done by my Daemon allies. So not much rolling on the boon table as yet. Not sure its worth making a second DP, just another con by GW imo. Rune Priest Ridcully
To be fair, I have said if any model in the gaming club ever actually gets daemonic ascension, I will come to the next one in a tiger onesie as a joke :D Still a really nice model, were you thinking of sculpting spawn? I've been thinking of trying it myself and was thinking of making a "sculpt a spawn" thread in the chaos ascendent. So any advice on starting sculpting in general? Schultzhoffen
I love your painting style. Those TS look great. I particularly like the banners. Galloway
Very cool minis and awesome paint jobs and sculpting. Where did the head for the sorcerer (mask with long "tongue") come from? Kastor Krieg
Awesome sculpt of the DP, man. I also love how the idea of cutting up the Griffon for parts of a Tzeentchian DP spreads around. Good job! ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/263489-thousand-sons-project/page/2/#findComment-3249237 Share on other sites
Shuggnuggath
@ Rune Priest Ridcully Back when I first started playing Thousand Sons in the days of 3.5 (goes misty eyed) I used Tomb Kings Ushabti as my spawns. So I'm still using them. If I were to make some new spawn I would probably get a box of Milliput and go for making some that are more like the old Horrors. I would use the Milliput to form a blob shaped body and then add lots of tentacles, eyes and mouths with greenstuff to create some kind of amorphous horror that Cthulhu would be proud of :) @ Galloway Under the previous Codex I was using the generic daemons unit entry to represent cultists. For the cult leaders I got the plastic Empire wizard box. There are plenty of great wizardy bitz in that box and the head I used for my new Sorcerer came from there. I believe its the Light Wizard head or possibly the lore of Metal.
