I bought this model last October and spent over a month building the beast before burning out and leaving it for 10 months. This past month I've revisited the project and completed it. It's the biggest thing I've ever painted and as you can see from the picture below I'm use to painting big models!

Well done, really nice job on such a massive model Gareth!!!

I'm loving your lenses, lights and internal colour scheme, they really help to make it stand out. It looks wicked next to the other models, a true centre piece.

I also have one in a multiple piece WIP that has me in two minds about how to create a base and stand, yours has just cemented the process, thank you for that.

I'm also stealing your helmeted pilots idea, much better in case of decompression damage, thanks yet again.

Do you use magnets or anything to hold the bits together or (like mine) do they fit snuggly and not worry you?

Also, does the model move on the pole?

I can see on the other models you have the abilitly to do the base better, it seems to let the model down, sorry for the CnC, just thought I'd get it out there :P Maybe a bit more sand or texture needed, or maybe it's just the pics that make it look a little flat.

Kindest regards

Stobz

Stobz, did you go to my blog? There is a tutorial on how I made the base. There are better pics too. Here is one pic of the base though...

Sorry mate, I can't open it at work but I'll have a look tonight at home.

Base looks much better in the above pic cheers :)

Thanks for the reply anyways, I'll leave a comment here once I've picked your brains ;)

Woooooow, that's one heck of a project! Only taking 10 months off after building that monster is about 20 months less than I would have taken. Keeping a consistant high quality over such a big project is incredible, well done sir. Those big bugs are pretty sweet too BTW.

Ah this reminds me of how much i dislike the Thunderhawk being more and more ousted in favour of all the other SM flyers coming out lately.

I understand the desire for a more stat/budget-friendly flyer for the masses, but the 'Hawk and its shape is iconic.

And your paintjob is beautiful by the way.

Agreed.

I've never seen one of these in person, but I've seen the bio-titan so that thunderhawk must be massive... some day. Some day...

[edit] Forgot to add praise for the paint job :tu: Great colors and weathering. I hate the smurfs, but these colors make me admire them, so that's saying something!

  • 11 months later...

AWESOME! You've really done the big bird jealous! I would be scared witless trying to assemble and paint that monster (and do the interior etc.!)

Brilliant looking blue, and just the right amount of markings, and extras, great stuff!
