1: I have been seeing more and more lists without mark of the wulfen, why is that??

I've always run MotW, as much for fluff reasons (I play a Bran Redmaw company) as gameplay. For 15pts you get 0-5 (+2 on average) additional CC attacks (base GH = 1+1, MotW GH = d6+1), and those attacks are Rending (1:6 chance to Wound any T, even T8+ at AP2) at I.

In 6th I've been running a lot of foot-slogging Grey Hunters; my favourite squad in particular is lead by a Wolf Guard Terminator with Combi-Plasma/Shield and Mark of the Wulfen. Double Wulfen in one squad is absolutely brutal, I love it (especially with Wolf Standard to re-roll those 1s on the MOTW roll...)

As for the Bikes/Thunderwolves question, I'm going to say Thunderwolves. S5 Rending attacks will make mincemeat out of infantry, plus you can take an S10 fist or hammer with 4(!) attacks base, which is great. And a kitted-out Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf Mount is a terrifying thing indeed. Mine has cut through an entire Tyranid army almost singlehandedly, and never ceases to impress me when I take him.

Though they are low cost, I'm still not a fan of the Low BS/WS that the Swiftclaws have, and I also don't like the single special weapon. If you really want bikers, I'd spring for an allied SM Biker Captain. Then you can take Bikers at WS/BS4 with options for two special weapons and a combi on the Sarge, AND they're scoring.

The competition for that 15 same points is being pulled toward having a power axe instead. Some people will go with both but its pretty easy now a days to loose an upgraded unit to directional fire if you not careful about where you place them. You can only put so many guys in the middle.

This situation has pushed me more toward stacking my specials as well, such as Power Axe + Standard on the same model. I dont recommend stacking anything with a plasma gun or pistol. to easy to loose him to overheat.

Vrox

I run MotW in my GH, but this is because I haven't made the modeling switch from 5th yet.

It seems the power axe shines with "always ap 2, just worry about hitting and wounding".

I feel mark of the wulfen leaves it up to the dice gods.

However, mark of the wulfen, especially when stacked (wg w/ motw) has the potential to devistate.

I dislike hoping for 6's on a handful of dice, when the power axe can cause the wound on a 3 or 4+ usually. But usually only one or two wounds.

The big difference, I think, is the Initiative values. The author of space wolves grey pointed out they are at initiative order, which is hard to find in ap 2 non-mon-creature.

Double take at a Wolf Guard Battle Leader and his base 3 att, mark of the wulfen and runic armour makes him a potentially lethal challenger, especially in unit with wolf standard. But its costly.

I prefer mark over power axe. There is mathammer out there somewhere.

Sadly the WGBL's 3A base doesn't mean much once you factor in MotW; once you take it your base attack stat becomes 1+D6.
