goodshipalbion Posted October 17, 2012 Share Posted October 17, 2012 Hi All, I used to be a massive GW fan...got into the hobby with the launch of 3rd edition 40k, collected space marines, arbites, tau and nids...had fantasy, necromunda, inquisitor, bfg etc etc...basically spent a small fortune had loads of old rule books and older games too. If only I'd known about ebay lol :D Anyways i "grew up" and gave everything away and went to college and university but importantly kep reading the gaunts ghosts novels which i loved...then along came the horus heresy (thanks to an amazon recomendation) and i read those as they came out one by one always keeping an interest. cut to a few months ago when a friend mentioned getting into 40k and it all came back to me...i found all the pre heresy marines on here and dakka etc and was hooked...id made up my mind i wanted some good looking space marines (unlike the bright orange mess that was my first army back in the day) So i set about buying everything from scratch...moddeling tools, paints, brushes, materials...the list goes on. I was plesantly surprised at how cheap it all was via ebay and online retailers ( a far cry from my old model shop) So the big question...just what was i going to put together. I loved all the pre heresy stuff i was seeing, and some amazing true scale caught my attention. I wanted to be unique and do my own thing somewhat and i had 3 strict budgets in mind: 1 - cost...this had to be kept reasonable...all forgeworld was not an option 2 - time...i dont mind putting some effort in but i work a busy job and have a new fiancee so need my free time 3 - skill...having been out of the hobby for 10 years i didnt want to bite off more than i could chew so the concept: An art scale (corrected for height but not bulk) a second founding (thanks grey knights codex for saying theres like 400 of them) space marine army set towards the end of the scouring period (for some of the heresy look) featuring many conversions and older models for added cool points :) based mostly on GW minis but some conversion parts from other firms. scenic bases made by hand and to be painted to hopefully a good table top standard using army painter colour primer, gw paints, quickstain and matte varnish for sake of simplicity and speed. The Chapter are called the martial brotherhood and are focused on martial prowess expressed through different unit types adopting historical figting styles / personas...eg Jet bike troops as mongol / samurai mounted archers, jet pack marines as spartans etc....fluff will come when i have more time to do some creative writing. I started having great fun putting it all together, ordering interesting bits, exploring all the alternative resin manufacturers...and looking for inspiration on here. I even started going to my local GW store in darlington where i won the 40k birthday comp:) then they told me about an invasion tournement at warhammer world on the 4th of november giving me real tight deadline to get 1250pts ready and painted!!!! so background over ill get some pics up next :P Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

goodshipalbion Posted October 17, 2012 Author Share Posted October 17, 2012 needed at least one tank...so GF got me a razorback...i bought chapterhouse mk1 kit...in IG hunter killer of the bay...removed the exhausts (very hard) rebuilt with scratch built mk 1 style exhausts. goodshipalbion Posted October 17, 2012 Author Share Posted October 17, 2012 so thats where i am up to...still to build: 9 more tac marines as per the one at the start of the thread (they take about 4-5 hrs each) 10 scouts (cadian bodies with marine legs for a RT scout look) armed with custom built sniper rifles...want a ninja / assasin vibe for these??? this should be enough for the tournement then i want to build a honor guard each as a different gladiator style and quite fancy a retro looking land raider. then i think i big show piece...i fancy a kit bashed thunderhawk :) looking fo CC hints tips....happy to answer any questions...post extra pics do guides etc let me know what you all think cheers for listening Josh Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
