Grimtooth
I never found out what color grey that he ended up using for that force. I started to think about it a little more and decided to go with something different. I am now looking at this grey with a flat finish to allow for battle damage and fetishes to really standout. I am thinking it would be considered codex grey? http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/Grimtooth_photos/3183491360_f8a835438b_o.jpg I am almost tempted to do this over a white primer instead of black. Growler67
Why not a grey primer? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/263628-james-karch-rulebook-sw/#findComment-3211859 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
Why not a grey primer? I did that with one of my older SW armies and after washes it got darker then I planned. I am just thinking with a white prime it would result in a lighter grey that when washed would be just about right. Wulfebane
Looks about the same shade Iacton Qruze uses. Might check and see if he mentions which paints he uses for armor in his blog. -Volsung-
That looks like codex grey with fortress grey highlight. Standard 13th company or Relictors scheme before the new paints came in. Black primer or white makes no difference for codex grey when washes are applied. Black would probably be better then for keeping joints and crevices black. Gonna have to do a test run on some models which I freaking hate doing. Max_Dammit
I never like mini's that have the same paint color as the plastic under it, they look not finished, even when a lot of detail is put in to them. I think the Carcharodons pull it off... which reminds me. Be careful your Wolves don't end up looking like space sharks with fur. Iacton Qruze
Looks about the same shade Iacton Qruze uses. Might check and see if he mentions which paints he uses for armor in his blog. I do, though I'm inclined to agree with Volsung, that that particular color looks like it'd be a Codex/Fortress mix with a pure Fortress highlight. The main thing is that it's similar to mine, but flat, rather than the deeper shades you need to make the models stand out on the tabletop. I'd maybe try to shade it by mixing in RMS Stone Grey, and adding a bit of VMC German Grey to your deepest shades. spikyjames
I never found out what color grey that he ended up using for that force. Hi, Sorry if I missed any previous questions, don't come round here all that often. The mini's were painted the following way; Black undercoat Adeptus Battlegrey basecoat Scorched Brown in the recess's Codex Grey 1st highlight Fortress Grey final highlight I purposely kept the scheme basic as far as highights go, just meant less mixing so in theory speeds me up a bit :D James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/263628-james-karch-rulebook-sw/#findComment-3214826 Share on other sites

I think the original thread was when the 6thedition rulebook hit and every got to see your Wolves for the first time so there was a lot of traffic. Belfast
Why not a grey primer? I did that with one of my older SW armies and after washes it got darker then I planned. I am just thinking with a white prime it would result in a lighter grey that when washed would be just about right. I had good luck with priming grey, washing with nuln oil, then painting over the top with mechanicus standard grey. You still get the dark coloration in the crevaces but the shade of grey ends up being a nice medium grey where I found black to be too dark and white being fairly pointless Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/263628-james-karch-rulebook-sw/#findComment-3215362 Share on other sites
Growler67
I happened across this the other day....seems gray can be done well in it's simplicity..... http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc910brZV01rue4a1o1_1280.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/263628-james-karch-rulebook-sw/#findComment-3216333 Share on other sites
