Hey all I've had this thread going on a few other forums but I figured I'd start it here as well to see what all you power armor heads thought.

Very nice work brother, two questions:

Could you detail how you painted the white for your World Eaters, I still haven't figured out the right colours for a pleasing white.

What arms did you use for that MK III assault marine? I had wondered whether to use Iron armour (brutal looking and the weak rear armour a statement that the wearer isn't going to turn his back on the enemies)

Thanks guys

As far as the white goes I'll try to put a tutorial up at some point but it's

-Army Painter Gray

-Vallejo Model Air Light Gray sprayed at a downward 45 degree angle

-1:15 mix VMA Light Gray/VMA White sprayed directly top down on the model

that's how I get the shadowing and gradient, I also coat the model liberally in Vallejo Weathering Pigment Light Sienna and then Spray a gloss coat to seal it in, that really brings out the off whit and slight dustiness to the armor

The arms on the MkIII Assault Marine are from the chaos space marine sprue.

Are those jetpacks mk 2 or mk 5 packs? Didn't like the look of them on the fw website but you've really done them justice!

The Jetpacks are actually from Chapterhouse Studios http://chapterhousestudios.com/index.php?r...p;product_id=69 They're great but they are somewhat hit or miss with their molds.

Very cool. Would it be presumptuous to ask how you did the gore?

not at all, I actually have to do the gore on the second assault squad today so I'll put up a tutorial

Alrighty here's the Gore tutorial as requested by Akylas.

Step 1: Music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch5zWkh04dM...ture=plpp_video

Here's what you'll need:

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00382.jpg

Start by applying red gore to the areas you want blood spatter on.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00383.jpg

I recommend drybrushing it on for a more realistic spatter effect that doesn't look like a 5 year old took a red crayon to it.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00384.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00386.jpg

Ensure you paint all the teeth on chainblades, remember these things are whirling, grinding, nasty pieces of machinery that are going to get pieces of people sprayed all around in their internal workings.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00387.jpg

Then paint the point of impact on the chain blade, this is going to be where a limb or head was hacked into. Seeing as these weapons, when used against other Astartes, are only effective when they hit a joint. As far as chain axes go this is going to mean the entire head is usually the point of impact seeing as the have a shorter surface area than a sword. common sense applies.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00389.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00390.jpg

Next make a 2:1 mix of Red Gore to Black, depending on how light or dark you want the gore to be you can tweak this mixture as you see fit.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00391.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00392.jpg

this is the consistency you're going for.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00393.jpg

Apply this to central points and areas of highest concentration. This means recesses, crevices, and areas where gore is likely to pool and build up.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00394.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00397.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00398.jpg

On the Chainblade this means at the base of the teeth along the chain and at the point of impact.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00396.jpg

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00399.jpg

Finally drop out a little gloss varnish

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00400.jpg

Apply the gloss coat to every fleck of blood, but don't get sloppy and get it on untouched armor otherwise the effect of glistening, wet gore is not as clear.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00402.jpg

And voila! That's it, simple and effective.

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q532/mv8830/DSC00403.jpg

Hope this helps all of you looking to walk the Crimson Path, stay tuned for future updates.

NOTE: A word of caution, less is more in the case of gore, don't make your guys look like the just took a blood soaked shower, apply common sense to the direction and placement of the spatters, if you need to, watch a few episodes of Dexter, you'll get the idea.

Well i just love what you have done with these. i am a long time world eaters fan and you have confirmed that i should pursue my interest in them. i love all the forgeworld love for them too. Have you plans for Angron? I tried to take my mind off the new horus heresy stuff by buying the new chaos warpsmith (first finecast product for a year... you blew your third chance gw) and the quality confirmed what i already knew. Forgeworld although expensive is well worth it as you get quality. Sorry for the rant but shoulda saved my money and started a world eaters legion and try to make them as AWESOME as yours.

I concur, both the quality and art direction with GW have been on a slippery slope lately, or at best wildly random in terms of good and bad models. FW has rarely ever disappointed me when it comes to how well they sculpt their stuff. I always pictured Angron in my head and was worried when they announced they were doing the Primarchs, but they freaking knocked it outta the park with the whole Horus Heresy release. And yeah I have major plans for the Red Angel, I always envisioned him in the white armor of his legion with a lot less baubles and trinkets than the artwork show him with, just a gritty soldier who is more concerned with fighting alongside his sons than anything else.

Thank you so much for the gore spatter tutorial. This is the best painting tutorial I've seen. I hate the White Dwarf tutorials they just give you a layer by layer. I don't know if I'll put it to a lot of use with my Salamanders but I'll definitely try it out on a test model. I'll post the results when I do though.
