Hail brothers.

Here is my finished test mini for my new Omega Marines army.

There wasn't much out there in cyber space in regards to this chapter so I didn't have much to go on but I'm quite happy with the outcome, so will slowly be making my way through collecting a 750 point force and posting the finished models here.

Constructive criticism etc welcome.

Cheers for the kind words all.

Wow that looks completely fantastic, love the weathering on the armour. That halved colour scheme looks great. The scratches on the launcher look good too - is that brush or sponge weathering?

;; would you mind sharing your colour recipes, too?

No problem at all mate, happy to share. I've kept the recipe fairly simple - it takes me long enough to get a model painted up, so I know if I made the scheme too complicated I wouldn't get very far with an army!! It's a skull white spray base, given a few liberal Nuln Oil ink layers (actually taken from painting tips in the newest WD), taking care to get it right into the detailing. I don't go too heavy on the highlighting stage to try and keep the model gritty and battle worn rather than clean looking, and the weathering around the boots etc is dry-brushed scorched brown. The scratches and armour chips are painted on with boltgun metal first, and then highlighted and shaded on opposite sides to give them a 3D effect. The black is standard chaos black with a very small amount of codex grey mixed in, and the face was a 1:1 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Bleached Bone, washed with Ogryn flesh, touched up with the first mix again, then highlighted with a 1:2 mix, and finally a bleached bone highlight on areas such as the teeth etc.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Cheers for the in-depth reply! I'm surprised that's nuln oil over pure white, I would have guessed you'd used rakarth/dheneb as a base. I'll have to try this method out somethime.

Comes out surprisingly well. I went by one of the painting articles on one f the Forgeworld models in the newest WD. I've used it more liberally than they did after looking back at that article, but it still gives a good effect.

Cheers guys

He looks fantastic. It's nice to see some Omega representation. I was a little unsure about the bone at first in your wip thread, but it looks very convincing. Is the Tactical marking a transfer or freehand?

Glad you like it, the Tactical Squad marking is a freehand. I toyed with using decals but there's so many great painters on here who freehand absolutely crazy stuff on banners etc, so I thought it was about time I tried that sort of thing out for myself.

Amazing paint job all around. Especially like the weathering/scarring. And the flesh is superb.

If I had one small criticism it would be the base. Compared to the rest of the mini it looks rather bland. Minor detail however, the model is outstanding.

Looks good! Where did you get the chest armour from, if I may ask? I really like the look of it.

It's a Forgeworld piece mate.

Cheers again for the kind words all. Might be some time before a full squad emerges I'm afraid guys, though I've just ordered some more Forgeworld goodness to make up the rest of the marines.
