13th Wolfwing

Recommended Posts

Then I`m finally back and with a new army and project log no less.

This is an all-terminator project I`ve been wanting to do for ages but I`ve spent a lot of time getting hold of all of the minis and parts I needed. The base terminator is chaos but with space wolf plastic termie parts but also some other stuff I had.

The list will consist primarily of:

Logan Grimnar

Njal Stormcaller

2*4 termie wolf guards

1*5 termie wolf guard incl Arjac Rockfist

1*Dread i drop-pod

Totaling in at 1500 points. Not a lot of minis, probably not a game-winning list but I don`t care about that really. I will add some more Chaos stuff as allies. That`s why I went with 13th company as they kinda/or at least could borderline against being more evil than good. Anyways, that`s my logic.

Now unto pre-grey-/greenstuffing pics:

HQs, from left Njal, Logan and Arjac:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/HQs_zps4355e838.png

Stormshields:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/stormshields_zpsc86e49eb.png

Twin wolfclaws:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaws_zps00c63420.png

Combi-flamers and assault cannon:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/combiampassault_zps1142529d.png

Last but not least, the dreadnought:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/dread1_zps141d6f2a.png

Haven`t decided on configuration of the squads but I`ll sort that out at another time. Did not include a pic of the drop-pod as it`s stock and not very exciting at that stage.

Started greystuffing the wolf-claws first:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaws2_zps5cde9e62.png

The fourth only got gapfilling. That`s the one with the rebreather. I think I`ll add some braids to these three though. Gives it a bit more viking/berserker fell I think.

Second stage of greystuffing, now including Njal.

Njal:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/njal1_zps411a1dab.png

I used the staff from that WHFB Wolf priest character from the Empire army, and an old plastic Empire mage as the base for Njal. The cute little raven is from a bannertop I had lying around. Not all that sold on this mini so far but I will stick to my guns and complete him before I decide on keeping him or making a new one. Didn`t take a pic of the back but I`ve made a cloak for him which looks quite nice.

Wolfclaw#1

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw3-1_zps48b389ba.png

Wolfclaw#2

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw2-1_zps28c7a3d3.png

Wolfclaw#3

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw1-1_zpsec9a8af6.png

The wolfclaw armed fellas are more or less done I think. I`ve added as much hair, beards and braids as I thought I could get away with. I think the feral look will be maintained at least.

C&C as always welcomed

The legendary 13th Company of the Space Wolves Legion disappeared 10.000 years ago, and the circumstances of that disappearance are the subject of numerous myths and legends.

From those very myths and legends the elite Wolfwing warband have now returned to the Imperium of Man, still intent as ever upon fulfilling the task they were set ten millenia past by, legend states, the Primarch Leman Russ himself

+ Skald & Eirik +

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw1-FIN_zps3f63825c.png

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw3-FIN_zpsfbb3d844.png

+++

Skald and Eirik feature several of the trademarks from the 13th Company. First and foremost the geneseed of the 13th Company show a dominance of red hair and iceblue eyes. Even through centuries of warfare those trademarks still hold strong.

Furthermore we see the use of looted enemy armour. As the 13th Company has been away from Fenriz and the rest of the Chapter they have to make do with what they salvage in the aftermath. In a grim tradition they always paint these parts in the Pre-Heresy colours of the Thousand Sons. Why is not known, but one can speculate...

+++

Very happy to show off my vision of the 13th Company members even if daylight is getting shorter by the day so the pics are not the best. Do ask or just leave some comments if you please :P

EDIT:

Some more angles to show off the weathering better. The first pics it just looks dirty.

Update time again :)

Got some more wolf guards done:

Storm bolter & chainfist.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw7-1_zpse8a84490.png

Storm bolter, powerfist & cyclone missile launcher.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw6-1_zps342a43ca.png

Frost axe & storm shield.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw5-1_zpsb6d7d5d1.png

Thunderhammer & storm shield.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw4-1_zps1eebe880.png

They`re all basecoated now so next in line for some paint. Also working on some Long Fangs and some Grey Hunters. More on those later ;)

+ Hrolf +

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfclaw2-FIN.png

+++

Wild and feral as the others armed with twin wolf claws, Hrolf is a savage fighter proudly bearing his battlescars refusing to replace his lost eye. Luck has it that this has amplified his other senses tenfold and he is now an even more dangerous opponent than ever before.

+++

ooo Olaf Hellige ooo

(count-as Njal Stormcaller)

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/njalFIN.png

ooo

Ancient. The second oldest in the 13th Company, but the only one not interred in a Dreadnought Olaf still is one of the staunchest and most able warriors in the company. He commands the elements, and when he enters the fray the very elements follow his command. No wonder then that he is the one that has learned how to navigate the warp as the company has lost their navigators centuries ago.

However he is also cursed. The curse of the Wulfen. His very features are distorted and enlarged and it is his pure will that holds the curse at bay.

ooo

Here`s what I have finished so far, not so bad I think :)

C&C as always welcomed!

Hello there, Brother Red, long time no see :P

I'm a bit disappointed that you're not back with Night Lords, but your new project looks interesting enough. One thing I don't really like is that the heads look a bit strange. It looks almost like they were hanging out slightly of the suit of armour. Otherwise, the painting is (as usual) nice and gritty (I love those power blades) :)

Cheers mate :D

Really? I didn`t think anyone would remember those so thanks for that :) In truth I stopped with them in wait for the new codex. Now it`s here but I still don`t know what direction I want to take with them. I do got two boxes worth of DV chaos and a lot of metalfigs I bought this summer at my old hobbystore so no worries, there will be more ;)

As for the heads, but distended from the armour and the markedly various sizes of heads in this force. This I explain with the wulfen strain. They`re basically mutants in disguise, or at least not as pure as Imperial regulations would require. More on that later as well ;)

Regarding the paintjobs, you`re to kind mate, much to kind :)

Update time!

Caved in and made som Grey Slayers (count-as Grey Hunters). I`ve played Space Marines enough to appreciate the qualities of a tac squad.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/greyslayers1.png

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/greyslayers2.png

Looking forward to painting these, I think they`ll look great with the Wolf Guards. Those without helmets have only received pony-tails (no not a brony here ;) ).

Then it`s the last of the termie armoured guys:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfguard1.png

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/wolfguard2.png

The Abaddon fig will be my "Harald Blodoks" count-as Logan Grimnar. Blodoks means Bloodaxe in norwegian, hence the chaos axe. Gone a bit ko-ko you know. I`ve also re-organised the wolf guards packs into one pack for Harald and one for Olaf. The dread+drop-pod is still in the list and I`m also making a Long Fangs unit.

Do leave some C&C please :P

Some more wolf guards, this completes Olaf`s pack.

The Grey Slayers are basecoated and dried so they`re next in line.

I can explain a bit more of the background of the 13th Wolfwing. It is basically a Loganwing armylist with a 13th Company spin on. 13th Company was a proper armylist back in the days of the "Eye of Terror" campaign and it all suited the minis I had at hand and the retro feel I wanted. 13th Company had two visual aspects with them that differs from normal Space Wolves:

1) They have the pre-heresy grey mixed with red and black armoured parts looted from even chaos space marines

2) openly struggle with the wulfen gene

For me this translated in a weathered and beaten look as these lads have been going at it for a long time without resupplies from the Legion/Chapter and feral with the long hair which funnily enough have a solid strain of red in it akin to Russ himself. I also explain the varying headsizes with the wulfen gene, some are affected some are not. This is also the reason I put the plog in the chaos forums. They are still loyal to Russ and the Allfather but they have strayed to far away with the use of heretic equipment and by letting the wulfen gene develop unhindered. At least in the eyes of the Imperium.

With that out of the way, here`s some pics :D

Long Fangs, or Claw Einherjer as I call them:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/longfangs1-1.png

Probably not the best loadout but the amount of plasma in the list is increasing and I like the glowy effect ;)

After playing a game with Olaf my count-as Njal I found that runepriests where a lot of fun so I made another one that can accompany the Grey Slayers (Claw Ulfer) or Claw Einherjer depending on the role I want him to take.

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/runepriest1-1.png

Proper kitbash this one, just need some greenstuffing to tidy up some parts. I do dare someone to name the parts though ;)

As always, C&C welcomed :)

Apologies in advance for shoddy pic. Daylight is the shortest time of the day here now so good pics are hard to come by when main hobbytime is after the kids are asleep..

Anyhoo. Here's Pack Ulfer*:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/greyslayersFIN.png

(*Ulfer means Wolfes)

A lot of fun minis in this pack, they go along well with the rest of the Wolfwing. I`ll take some army shots of what`s done in my next update :D

Your logs always manage to inspire me -- you're a pro kitbasher and you tend to create a very unique esthetic with your models. While I'm disappointed that you aren't continuing the Night Lords, these are very cool and have me thinking of recycling my miscellaneous leftover Marines into a Space Wolf force . . .

Nice work ;)

Wow, thanks Stuart, you truly humble me with those kind words ^_^

Don`t worry, the Night Lords are not done yet. I just lack direction at the moment, but I have the new codex at hand and I`m working on it ;)

Please do recycle! Just run a Loganwing with Wolf Guards as troops (or donate them to me ;) ) :)

Did some more work on the dread:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/dread2-1.png

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/dread2-2.png

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/dread2-3.png

Only had one TL autocannon and wanted two so I made one out of a spare dread ccw arm and some plasticard. It`s still quite rough and I haven`t done any greenstuffing yet so this is an early WiP at best ^_^

Thanks Stuart :)

He`s the one with the most chaotic influence in the warband so no wonder ;)

No actually not. I have a drop-pod for the dread, one long fangs pack, thunderwolf pack w/lord and a rune priest. I`m also getting another huge batch of oop/vintage stuff so I will be able to reinforce both the Wolfwing and the Night Lords B) ;)

I`m painting the long fangs as we speak and the dread will be greenstuffed this evening.

Evening!

The temperature finally rised above -15 celcius so I was able to varnish and basecoat some units that have been waiting more or less a week for that. When it`s to cold things go to gak if I spray in those temperatures..

I was supposed to have finished both the Long Fangs and the Rune Priest but luck of course would not let me get that far as I dropped the RP...twice! So he will have to wait as I need to put him together again. Luckily parts and paintjob survived..

Anyhoo, here`s my long fangs:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/longfangs2-FIN.png

I went for the literal approach that they are among the oldest among the wolves so grey hair for all of them. Looking forward on putting these to use :D

Next up will be the dread and drop-pod that I`ve finally managed to basecoat.

Lone Wolf with his dog(gy?):

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/lonewolf1.png

He`s armed with frost blade and storm shield and one wolf. The wolf is slightly mutated as with the rest of the 13th Company in my fluff. Next up will be greenstuffing, and when I`m done with that I hope that the mark of wulfen will show on him.

Got some more stuff done today. Not more painting however which I should`ve done but progress is still progress I guess :P

Here is courtesy of Gitsplitta, my Long Fang pack#2:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/longfangs21.png

Yes, those are all original :D The lascannon is from my RT/2nd ed Space Orks but the era is still correct. The pack leader is a jetbike chaplain. Since I have two of him and I like the mini a lot this one made it into this pack. They don`t look like much now, but with some top-knots and small SW details here and there they will do just fine! So yes, this pack will be one of few with all helmets.

Here`s the Lone Wolf & fenrisian wolf pre-basecoat:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/lonewolf2.png

Threw in some more horns on the fenrisian wolf just to keep the mutated look all the way through. As for the Lone Wolf I opted to not beard him up. Quite like the sculpt as is so decided to not mess it all up with throwing in a beard. He`s unique as is :)

Then it`s some marines I`m swapping:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/GMS2.png

Think they`re about done so I can basecoat them as well and get painting.

The Long Fangs pack is also ready for basecoat. Forgot to take a pic of them but the main difference is that they have top-knots now so nothing much really ;)

Evening!

Got a lot of stuff to show today, so on with the pics <_<

First up the marines I`m swapping:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/GMS3-FIN_zps16ca538f.png

1-i`s marine was a really crappy pic...but I think they look quite decent. Wouldn`t mind keeping them myself, lol!

Long Fangs pack#2:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/longfangs22-FIN_zps605ff6a1.png

Really like this squad, like a lot!

Dreadnought:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/dread4-FIN_zps1cd2173e.png

I tried to make the marine look crippled, hence kinda leaning towards one side. He`s also one of very few with any bionics in this army. The name is from norse mythology. You know the Jotun from the marvel movies?

Lone Wolf w/Fenrisian companion:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/lonewolf3-FIN_zps13f70287.png

These two really turned out great, by far among my favs in this army! So happy I went for the mutated wolf versus two "normal" ones.

Runepriest:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/runepriest2-FIN_zps3bbb37e5.png

Yes, this is the one I dropped twice and broke in multiple parts....but here he is!

And then, obligatory 2k army pic:

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a607/tomkristians/army2k_zps7467fd16.png

Hope you like what I`ve done so far, cause there will be more ;)

Not to beat a dead horse, but I really do love this army. Glad to hear you'll be expanding from here.

Have you considered holding off on purchases, though, and saving money for a new camera? These pics are awful!
