Hi all!

I've been a long time reader of B&C, but only recently decided to make good use of my account. I'm currently painting a Terminator Assault squad for my Salamanders army. They are the last unit that I need to finish to complete the following army list:

190 Vulkan He’stan

555 TH/SS Terminators x7, LRC, MM, EA

220 Tactical Squad ‘I’ x10, CF/MBs, Flamer, ML, Rhino

140 Tactical Squad ‘II’ x5, Razorback, SB

115 Dreadnought, MM, HF

120 2x Land Speeders c 2x HF each

80 Land Speeder c 2x MM

80 Land Speeder c 2x MM

= 1500 points

I'll post pictures of the army when I get the Assault Terminators finished.

I have decided on my next two projects, one of which I started earlier today. I've taken a lot of inspiration from this topic - http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=262448 - by Gawain Veteris. I had given up on my idea of doing Heresy era Emperor's Children (due to cost) until I saw his tutorial on converting Space Marine plastics into mk!V power armour. Earlier today I made a small start on my first attempt to replicate his methods, and this is where I got to:

The other project I will start at some point is a Dark Angel allied detachment for my Salamanders, because I need to do something with my Dark Vengeance minis! I think I will probably wait to start on that project until the new Dark Angel codex comes out though.

I know there isn't a lot to comment on yet, but if you want to ask about anything above until I get more photos up feel free!

Hi guys,

I wasn't surprised by the lack of comments on my first post, seeing as there was just a picture of a cut up Space Marine torso! I've now made a start on the sculpting. It took four re-sculpts until I was happy with the result on the front of the torso. It's probably been two years since I last used green stuff, but as I'm not in a rush with this project I'm happy to go through as much trial and error as needed.

Here's some pictures of the sculpting on the front of the torso:

I've started prepping 7 other torsos from my bits box. I think I'll get them all to the same stage as the first torso before attempting to sculpt the wiring on any of them. I've got hold of some micro nail art beads, so some of the torsos will have studs on them. I'm looking forward to getting some of the Forge World etched brass imperial eagles at some point, to truly make the torsos Emperors Children.

I've finished painting my Salamanders, but no photos yet. I'm using my iPhone to take pictures and I don't have a clue how to take non-awful shots of my squads!

Anyway, I know there's not much more than last time, but any comments or questions would be welcome!

thats shapping up nicely - my attempt at replicating Gawain Ventris's work, late and slightly inebriated, the other night (supisingly  ) doesnt look anywhere as neat. was half thinking of using some guitar wire for cabling as a cheat.

@ lhg033 - Thanks for the compliment. You're very brave hobbying under the influence! Maybe don't use any sharp tools if you've been drinking the liquorsauce! Good tip about the guitar wire. I'll try my hand at sculpting the cables first, but it might be a bit beyond my skills. If it is I'll get myself down to the music shop.

@HellChyld - I've got an iPhone 4s. I've never used the zoom on it, thank you for pointing that out to me! I think I need to get a better lighting system set up for taking photos of my minis. I forgot I took photos of some of my Salamanders a little while ago, which I've posted on another forum. I'll re-post them here for some B&C scrutiny!

No sculpting update today unfortunately, I've been busy with work all week and laid low with a hangover today. I'm at a tournament tomorrow (first games with my fully painted Salamanders!), but I'll hopefully get some more sculpting done next week.

Cheers!

I got round to doing some more sculpting work. None of it's perfect but I get too frustrated if I aim for perfect!

Hello again,

My Emperor's Children are getting off the ground very slowly, but I have now finished my Salamanders, so things should pick up speed! I'll post some pictures of the Salamanders soon, but I've got a pic of my first undercoated EC to show. I've undercoated it in Army Painter Alien Purple. I'm really happy with how the sculpting on the torso looks now there is some paint on it. I'm using Forge World Brass Etch Eagles for the aquillas on my EC chest plates. Anyway, not much of an update I know, but it's going in the right direction. I'll hopefully get some brush work done soon!

Oh yeah, just to be clear that purple undercoat is just an undercoat, theres a lot to be done to it yet!

Judging by the work you've done so far in this thread, I have no doubt the end product will be looking spiffy. :tu:

How on earth did you manage to make such neat greenstuff stuff? Can you please tell me how  you make those "pipes", "wires" (I even have no idea how to call that)?

Got some paint on the first guy today, all the colours are at various stages, still plenty of washes/highlights to be applied. Im pretty happy with things so far. Ive got a photo of a mock up of this guy with his massive gun, which i converted out of a heavy bolter and quad gun bits. Im going to make four of them for an autocannon havoc squad. Ill be using the chaos marines codex so my ECs can have heresy era kit. Hope you like!

I think the autocannon could use some trimming down.  At that point he looks like he's compensating for more than recoil.

Very interesting purple.  I played around with that color a lot and never had much luck, but I always wondered how the Army Painter base would look.  The highlights have a real cool stylized look to them so far, but you seem to struggle with that technique in the tighter spaces of the studded shin.

I'll have to remember to keep an eye on this blog.  I'm curious to see how it will turn out (and what I might end up stealing for myself) ;)

Thanks very much for the feedback firepower! I'm fairly happy with the highlighting so far. I'll have another look at the studded shin next time i get the brushes out. I've had similar feedback about the gun before. I agree it is OTT, and maybe looks like he could have an issue with his little man! I like the absurdity of it though, it could almost be out of a 40k action spoof, 'Hot Shots 40k' or something. Heh.

Love the purple, the free hand AND the h. bolter (or whatever else it might be)!

More please!

EDIT: Almost forgot to comment on your sculpting! Awesome work man, really well made torsos there - smooth and consistent! :tu:

Thanks a lot guys! I'm pretty happy with him so far. I was in such a rush when i was painting my Salamanders, because I wanted a fully painted army to game with. It's nice to take a bit more time over hobbying. Hopefully ill get some more done on this guy this weekend!
