space wolf prototype

Hi all.

here is a few pictures of the first test mini for my Space Wolves army. I'm shooting for the Heresy era flavor, real viking in space kind of look. Inspiration was drawn from the conversion piece on the Space Wolves Blog.

Here's my first effort:

The torso & helm are from the Chaos Warriors box, the legs are Mk.III legs from Forge World. The helm is an ad-hoc conversion of the Chaos Warriors helm. I'm getting some Mk.II & III helms from bitz sellers on ebay, but lopping off the horns & adding a disk of plastic card doesn't look too bad for a very archaic helm. Backpack will be added from the current Space Wolves set in time.

Criticism? Suggestions? Comments? Help? All are welcomed. I look forward to see what y'all think.

Nice looking model and great combination of the two sets

The torsos "medieval" style fits really well with the MKIII legs

The helmet fits but I can't help but focus on the horn "roots". I like that you cut the horns off, but that their "holders" are still on the helmet looks a little off. Almost like he has a headset on, but that's just me.

Also big fan of the chaos warrior axe...

Can't wait to see more

Doesn't look bad at all.

Not my style for Wolves, I don't picture them this way, but it definitely doesn't look bad. Just make sure you throw in a backpack and some ammo pouches, because at the moment it simply looks like a Fantasy Chaos Warrior with a boltgun.

Don't really recommend using Chaos Warrior helmets. Stick to MK.7 to if you want to tie those guys back to Astartes looks.

Here is the test paint scheme for my army:

The base is Tamiya XF24 Dark Grey airbrushed on, followed by a wash of Nuln Oil & successive dry brushes of Vallejo Nuetral Gray & Light Gray.

The rest is done in various Citadel, Vallejo, & Reaper colors.

Let me know what you think. Obviously, he has a bit to go.

That is very nicely done. Very nice. You have winner there IMO. Looking forward to the finished product. THough I love the cloak & upper armour, not a real fan of the plates around the waist but that's my opinion. The model still looks good. Waiting to see what you do with the other arm. Keep it up.
