PipX
Working on creating a full on Chaos Warband, currently working to flesh out their background fully while waiting on some second hand stuff to come in. This blog will serve to centralize all my modeling efforts to get tips or criticism on ways I can improve. Link to my current fluff thoughts are here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=261326My color scheme is:http://i49.tinypic.com/343j245.jpgMy models will have a crusader/heavily mutated feel to it. Vehicles will be in semi states of mutation, some plain and some more ornate. My current project is making a counts-as Huron Blackheart. Got him done with GS work before priming:http://i50.tinypic.com/fjkbro.jpghttp://i49.tinypic.com/htxqn6.jpghttp://i46.tinypic.com/24qu2jm.jpgFor his robes, I think I am going to paint it with a bone-white color mixed with some yellow. I am also thinking of trying to wet blend a dark red color into it, to represent blood stained into it.For my bases, all of them will be hollowed out like that with details peeking up over the lip. I am going to paint inside with paint and a glitter mix, and then it will be filled in with water effects and topped off with a crackle paint. Idea is that my guys are on a daemon world. My Call of Chaos updates begin after Bro. PipX
So I've got my counts as Huron basecoated, who is the Silent Arbiter, Lord of the Tenth of the Idolators: http://i49.tinypic.com/2aafqqa.jpg But wait, what's that Arbiter? You want "performance enhancing drugs?" I dunno, last time those were used Lucius did...things to the Squats. Oh well, why not? "Enhanced" Arbiter: http://i47.tinypic.com/11hctc6.jpg His backpack is done as well, as well as his base: http://i49.tinypic.com/260pmcz.jpg I'm hoping to have good pictures in better lighting later today of him fully assembled, and intend to enter him into the Spikey Bits conversion contest. PipX
So for my first update is my Rhino for the Call of Chaos. http://i45.tinypic.com/30ublvp.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/eg8nyo.jpg I've magnetized the dirge caster turret, as well as the combi-weapon arm for the gunner so I can swap that out as needed when not buying a combi-weapon for the Rhino. Have it mostly unglued so I can paint the insides of it, rear hatch is magnetized and top hatch won't be glued down. PipX
First sizable update, Rhino primed and a batch of 10 of the cultists assembled: http://i50.tinypic.com/35d2hc9.jpg I like to use galvanized wire and magnets to separate parts for easy of painting. When I finish base coating I assemble the parts then hit them with Army Painter Dark Tone. Going to keep the first 10 cultists plain as a test for some alternate purple and turquoise shades, which will be used on non-Marine models. The second batch of 10 will have minor green stuffing to try to break up the monotony, might use some of the older mutation sprue arms as well, if they are scaled similarly. PipX
So had the flu last week, but managed to get my Rhino finished and 5 cultists up through dipping, just need to do their bases. http://i47.tinypic.com/mjn8fo.jpg From doing the Rhino, I've discovered that a 1:3 dip of clear paint thinner: Dark Tone is best, and I think in future I will completely assemble the vehicle before painting/dipping as opposed to doing it in parts. http://i48.tinypic.com/25tba53.jpg Going to be giving these guys bases similar to my Huron counts as earlier in the thread. Started on some basecoats on the other 5 cultists, and started prepping parts for my standard CSMs. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264015-idolators-the-crusaders-of-slaanesh/#findComment-3236621 Share on other sites

PipX
Started working on my ten man squad for the Call of Chaos: http://i45.tinypic.com/24o7n7t.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/km6tw.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/25f7j81.jpg http://i45.tinypic.com/161b1wk.jpg I am going to try to magnetize the icon pole, if I can't manage it to where it has acceptable strength, will be gluing an Icon of Excess to it. Having a hard time deciding how I am to arm the two special weapon troopers for the squad. Toss up between meltas and plasma. I think I am going to be making a plasma death chosen squad after I finish the CoC stuff. Part of my vow is also a terminator squad that I will be incorporating magnetized meltas into, so kind of a toss up. On some of the models I am going to try to sculpt some tabard cloths. Currently working down arms to pistol grips so I can model them with the bolters. PipX
Finishing up on the squad, need to do some minor work on the Champs LC but these guys will be ready for primer once I wire up their arms. Pictures so far blue tacked into their approximate poses: http://i45.tinypic.com/2zf7bbo.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/2h58opd.jpg http://i50.tinypic.com/2q30xvn.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/30j4tcg.jpg The banner pole is magnetised so I can switch out Icons down the road. My regular CSMs will mostly likely always be using the MoS though. Hoping to get some DA or religiousy bits when I get the huge bits bag from the war store black friday sale, so when I do the terminators I can really do them up well. The theme for this squad is more evil crusaders/reavers. PipX
December Update 1 So with the preparation for finals this month I've gotten behind a bit on my vow, but have been putting in some steady work. I am getting close to the CSM squad being completely painted, will be posting pics once they have been assembled before and after dip. Recently came into possession of an actual camera, so should be having better pics from now on rather than the shoddy phone ones. So one the things I am kind of going towards in this army is kind of a twisted "family" kind of outlook, which if I ever get around to writing fluff I hope to expand. I've also been kind of looking at some similarities between Slaanesh and Shub-Niggurath from the Cthulhu Mythos, and one of my units to kind of represent that will be members of the Cult of the Young: http://i50.tinypic.com/2cnwhsw.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/nmn9zs.jpg Beastmen cultists! Guns are from the Gorkamorka grot weapons sprue and they have a few IG detail bits on them. I should have at least 30 of these guys over time, Have another box of Gors and a box of ungors coming in. The one with the chainsword and laspistol is going to be a replacement for the DV champion, which I'll still use if I do 10 man squads. PipX
December Update 2 So after much procrastination, I finally got my squad of CSMs done for my vow! Stuff learned from this squad that will be applied towards future models: Clay shapers are great for some of the rounded stuff I want to do instead of my metal tools (Mine from the UK conveniently came in yesterday, 17-ish from amazon for a firm set), dark tone should be thinned down by about 1:3.5 parts paint thinner to dark tone, and do models in no more than groups of five to catch unsightly pooling, a few models have it but not extremely bad. Also, putting something flat inside the hollow base and gluing the marine to it before filling it in with realistic water and topping it off with the crack paint, might be more stable for the future then gluing them after finishing the bases. So without further ado, here they are: Before dark tone: http://i49.tinypic.com/20r9zjp.jpg Icon Bearer, Champion, normal dude: http://i49.tinypic.com/33vdqix.jpg Normal dude, plasma gunner, normal dude: http://i50.tinypic.com/2qsxwtv.jpg Normal dude, plasma gunner: http://i45.tinypic.com/2h4x55j.jpg Normal dudes: http://i50.tinypic.com/k209cz.jpg Close-ups! http://i45.tinypic.com/1607scy.jpg http://i45.tinypic.com/1zx0415.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/2gsfle9.jpg Currently working on a batch of the beastmen (Their leg fur is a pain to figure out where it ends and the skin begins) and started work on their bases, hollowed out 20 last night with my dremel, and glued them to plasticard, which I need to sand down. Ammonius
Wow! I salute your ability to pull off that super vivid color scheme! Once you finish up your army, you may want to consider building some daemon world terrain that makes your warband colors into camouflage :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264015-idolators-the-crusaders-of-slaanesh/#findComment-3269002 Share on other sites
Firepower
Fun color scheme :D Though I think the green eyes may be a mistake. As another cool color they seem to blend into the blue and purple too well. Might I suggest trying red or yellow or orange? PipX
Fun color scheme :) Though I think the green eyes may be a mistake. As another cool color they seem to blend into the blue and purple too well. Might I suggest trying red or yellow or orange? Yellowy orange would form a perfect color triad with the purple and turquoise, but the green is more of a personal choice. It's a favored color or mine, plus a little bit of "offness" is something I'm trying to go for (Like the champs odd pose) I'm definitely going to be incorporating more orange and yellow onto detail bits though, like tabards and some gems I plan on trying to sculpt onto my termies. Thanks for the comments guys! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264015-idolators-the-crusaders-of-slaanesh/#findComment-3269306 Share on other sites

PipX
So I finished up 6 of the beastmen cultists today, need to matte coat them tomorrow then will have pictures. I decided to building something afterwards rather than hopping on the last 5, and started some very rough work on my terminator sorcerer. I have a pretty good idea of how he will be posed, and need to dig through my bits box for detail stuff once I get him smoothed over (You'll see what I mean in a moment) My main impediment right now though is decided what head to use on him, so I figured I'd come here and see if anyone would have any thoughts on the ones I am considering. Here is a collection of the current heads and rough idea of how he will look: http://i49.tinypic.com/162af0i.jpg The first head is from the Bedlam Fraternity heads blister from Kromlech, the middle ones are a GK head and a possessed head, and last one is a BA head. Only the first one has had the neck trimmed to fit properly in the termie head socket. All except the GK head would be trimmed up and have long hair sculpted coming down around the middle chest symbol. The BF head and the BA ones are the ones I am leaning most towards, the possessed head would have the side spines cut down in addition to the hair. For his left arm i am going to make an organic cannon and try to incorporate elements of special weapons along with two bolter barrels to use for counts as purposes. He will have tons of books and demonic items on him, and the GK details will be totally gone. PipX
January, Update 1 So now in the home stretch of the call! Currently have on the painting table: Last 5 beastmen cultists and prepping 10 of their bases. Just finished building and to be primed shortly: Five Termies, magnetized: http://i48.tinypic.com/2h6yb9t.jpg Their heads: http://i45.tinypic.com/5a2o47.jpg Sorcerer body: http://i46.tinypic.com/30sx7kl.jpg Staff and arm, cape: http://i50.tinypic.com/fqwxx.jpg Sorcerer gun arm: http://i48.tinypic.com/2yuhys4.jpg Shoulder pads are going to be done last, I need to use my nails to hold up the magnetized arms for priming and painting. Dammeron
Oh, I'm stealing that "tongue gun" idea ^_^ Always inspiring to find a fellow Slaanesh worshipper around these parts. PipX
January Update 2 So everything is pretty much done, all my cultists finished and based, and the terminators/lord were painted and dark toned, now just a few days to get their bases processed. My last CoC update will be all the finished models together, now to just figure out where to go with my army from here! Cultists: http://i47.tinypic.com/357q8fa.jpg http://i45.tinypic.com/oi9bvr.jpg Terminators: http://i45.tinypic.com/t8otjd.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/33tjz11.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/3445slx.jpg Terminator Sorcerer: http://i48.tinypic.com/opd15.jpg I'll be seeing about getting the finished Call pictures done in a better light, seeing the images at full sized doesn't the last 3 justice. The sorcerer lord is going to be getting the non pink parts of the staff glossed back up, as well as the tongue and some of the mutated arm. I have some of the scenic water for making waterfalls and such, and will probably have a little bit of drool falling off the tongue and comine from the mouth on his leg. For the future, I am thinking of starting on another 10 man squad+ rhino to give me a good troops base, and then start working on heavies and some bikers. Any thoughts on what should come next to get me up to a basic 1500 list would be awesome, I can build or convert pretty much anything in the codex.
