Bearers of the Word Blog

I've lost my willpower and decided to start a 30k army to take to tournaments next year. Sure I will be using normal marine rules but it'll be based on the Word Bearers.

My favourite legions have always been the Thousand Sons and the Word Bearers. Whilst Magnus is just cool I've always liked the fact that Lorgar actually made attempts to stablise the regions he took rather than massacre and move on. You know, until he went mental and used humans as shields anyway.

I've ordered 20 marines, a drop pod and this fella so far.

Unfortunately the light doesn't really show the grey armour very well. It's a mix of Adeptus Battlegrey and Adminstrum Grey. In the background it's a dark grey so that is what they will wear! Though I intend to highlight up to a light grey on some of the edging to make it more stark. Similarly there is going to be lots of script or mantras on their armour. Is there actually a copy of the Leviticus Divinitum like the Infatrymans Primer (can't remember the true name) that I can lift words out of?

I'm not sure about the script so far. It just appears too much like wiggly lines and not enough like script. Does anyone have a guide or advice on doing writing?

The planned forces so far -

--------

Brother Chaplain Rothgul

10 Tactical Marines - Squad Aurelian - Plasma Gun, Power Weapon, Melta Bombs, Teleport Homer

- Drop Pod -

10 Tactical Marines - Squad Aurum - Plasma Gun, Power Weapon, Melta Bombs

- Drop Pod -

Contemptor Dreadnought- Brother Geld - Chainfist, Combat Weapon

- Drop Pod -

5 Terminators - Powerfists Storm Bolters

Definitely going to follow this one. A fan of both the WB and 1kSons here, only I chose Magnus' boys.

Looking forward to seeing your work.

As for the script, rather than trying to write readable text on their armour, I'd suggest going for scribbletext using a very, very fine pen.

Thanks for the encouragement! I hope you'll all enjoy seeing a Word Bearers blog!

I've done a bit of painting to try to break up the sheer amount of grey but i'm not sure. May have a second crack at it!

I've lifted the symbols kinda from hebrew scripture I found. Though really they are more random lines than anything else really. I figure it would be easy to go over the top so I'm going to limit it to here and there. The books always go on about their own special symbols from their homeworld rather than Imperial script.

Thoughts?

It's a little hard to make out details as the camera seems to be focusing on the table-covering rather than the mini. Try putting the model on a blank piece of paper when you next take a photo :P

The script on the shoulders looks good. If I remember correctly the Book of Lorgar was written in Cuneiform. How about trying some of that too?

Fair enough!

Let's try this bodged white screen then! Is this better?

I might have a go at Cuneiform at some point! I quite like the script so far!

Any idea on how to break up so much grey? I'm going to try weathering it as well but not sure where to start really.
