question for fw's heresy faq

Exactly, if it is supposed to be asymmetrical one side should be labeled "Primary Detachment" and the other "Allied Detachment" or should explain how to use it.

There have been many charts like this in GW and FW books, but none work asymmetrically.

It would be cool and fluffy though-- Blood Angels could take Sons of Horus allied detachment, but Sons of Horus won't bring in allied BAs.

And, although it is answered for me, I think a good FAQ would be "How do I unlock Phosphex shells for a Medusa?" because I looked all over the Wargear and Mechanicum lists before I found the one non-bulleted line under Siege Breaker Consul.

Maybe I'm the only one that reads the Wargear section first?

I think you might be right, but there's some connecting of the dots that needs to be done. The Betrayal table says nothing about how to use it, just that it is a more nuanced version of the BRB allies chart and that it "works in a similar manner".

The BRB does specify: "Find the row for the codex of you primary detachment on the left side... then find the column for your potential ally..."

Of course, the BRB Allies chart is symmetrical, but having it be asymmetrical is a pretty cool way to differentiate the different loyalties. I wonder if there will be a different Ally chart in different books, as things evolve? I have a feeling eventually the White Scars aren't going to be Sworn Brothers with the Sons of Horus.

It was quite a while back, possible C:SM. I was reminded of it recently in a discussion about C:CSM where it came up.

I agree that it reads like it should be just one or the other (the classic use of 'either'), but I'll see if I can dig up the FAQ where it was stated before (although I may not still have it, tbh).

A quick one: in the box for the Reconnaissance squads, it's said that Support Squads can't be taken as compulsory troop choices. -- but it's the entry for the Reconnaissance Squad, not the Support Squad one page before.

The box is identical in both pages, so it seems to be a copy & paste error - but does it means that the recon squads should follow the same rule, of was it supposed to be a complete different box altogether?

  • 2 weeks later...

I got a FW email reply saying the Allies Chart is indeed asymmetrical. Primary detachment, pick your row and then find your allied detachment in the column.

Also got confirmation on the Champion's rule should be Glorious Intervention and Veteran Upgrade for Siege squad should be removed.
