Black Legion army

Hello folks,

my latest project is a Black Legion army, heavy on cheap marines with a bit of support.

Here are some pix of my first item, the Heldrake. I posted it already but since i renamed the album the links got messed up, so i just post them here again.

Now I am working my way down from HQs to heavy support. First was my sorcerer, a fig I wanted to get done for Space Hulk (thus the little base, have to work out some magnetizing solution for that yet)

Next my Lord, the champion of the chosen from the DV box. He is armed with the axe of blind fury, so i had to give him a suitably demonic one and that new plastic aspiring champion carries an axe that is just perfect.

I will keep my progress up to date in this thread, any feedback appreciated, got a bunch of marines, raptors, termies, cultists and an aegis line with quad gun to go yet.

okay, here is a quick rundown on how i painted the heldrake. the same basically applies to all my Black Legion models. i believe when we paint models we have to make a choice, either we paint them in a way that looks good and realistic up close or we exaggerate high lights to give the models a great battle field presence. i do the former but neither way is wrong, just a matter of personal preference.

-prime black

-dry brush the whole thing with tin bitz

-dry brush the whole thing with shining gold, not too heavy. that is what makes the gold look somewhat old.

-paint all the flat recessed areas black (probably the most time consuming stage and later you WILL find some of those areas that you missed)

-for the tubing at the neck and in the rear, paint with bolt gun metal, then paint the tubing covering blood red, then give it a wash with devlan mud

dry brush the tips of the spikes and the whole claws with bolt gun metal

-for the glow effect paint the demonforge things with mechdrite red, including a bit of the surrounding area. then only the recessed ribs blood red and paint successively smaller areas in orange, yellow and white. (i used all foundation paints for those, do not apply them too thickly). then give the whole area a yellow glaze, then do a small line of white in the middle again. done.

for the eyes and nostrils, paint the inside white, then touch up the edges with gold and hit it with devlan mud to take the shiny out of it. then fill the cavity with a bit of red ink.

that's about it.

Here some shots of my terminators.

the bases are still for space hulk, have to figure out a way to magnetize some to switch them around.
