sugar-free
Well I might do a elite squad with the fw colors but I think I'm going to do some Legion of the Damn figs. Biohazard
These are fantastic so far and if the unfinished guy is anything to go by they will look awesome once they are all painted. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264114-my-new-army-howling-griffons/page/2/#findComment-3218993 Share on other sites
Eberious
Damn!, they are some fine painted HG you got there. If there was one SM army I would paint other than my BT's then its these guys. Its nice to see them done so well. Alas I suck at apinting yellow. Will be watching your progress with intrest. sugar-free
Believe it or not the yellow is easier then the red. It's all about the base coat. That's why I use a white primer, because then I can wash over the white with a base coat. I will go over the way I do them and all that I paint when I post new pictures up next week. sugar-free
ok, here are some updates. now i don't have any pics yet that deal with how i paint my Howling Griffons. That will come later with my second tactical squad. but here are some pics of my progress with some of the stuff. Scouts http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6831/s6301654.jpg http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/9894/s6301716v.jpg http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1991/s6301675p.jpg http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8957/s6301677m.jpg Termies http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/9933/s6301795y.jpg http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8251/s6301796w.jpg http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/8615/s6301797.jpg Commander Thurusel http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/873/s6301712j.jpg now some people say that there really is not a difference between the red i used on my commander and the red i used on my apothecary, but i didn't like the red that is on my commander so i will have to repaint the red side. it is too dark of a red for me. Apothecary http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6916/s6301788.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5600/s6301789.jpg hope you all like them and like i said i will take pics of how i do my reds and yellows when i do my second tactical squad and assault squad. AlexCrute
Note to self: Fly to Florida and challenge sugar-free to a yellow-off. Addendum: Do not be tempted to challenge sugar-free to a red-off or a white-off. He will beat you. Lachdannan
I've always like the Howling Griffins, and these are the best I have seen. Those scouts are amazing, and I love the red and yellow you have achieved. Truely amazing! Rain
Very very nice. I've always liked the clean look and you pulled it off well and with a very difficult scheme. Kudos. By the way, is the whole thing with the HG getting their :cuss ruined by Pereclitor still canon? Supposedly he got retconned into a Word Bearer or something so maybe that incident got retconned too. Would be sad if he did, it was one of the few moments of awesome for Chaos, and gives HG an interesting rivalry with Night Lords a la Imperial Fists/Iron Warriors. Boomsly
the red on the commander is deeper than the apothecary, i think its nicer imo, cant wait for tutorial for the painting step by step piccys would be awesome! keep up the good work, many love what you have done so far! onipunk
You have a very sort of "classic Rogue Trader" painting style in regards to how you shade and highlight your models, which I think serves them really well considering the overall brightness and colour of the scheme. You've certainly done the Griffons justice, and it takes some serious guts to tackle their scheme. I'll be keeping a close eye on this army, keep up the excellent work. Kierdale
Nice terminators but I really love the scouts! The camo is a great contrast to the red and yellow. Fantastic! irwit
One of the best looking WIPs Ive seen in here for a while, some serious commitment choosing a colour scheme like that but I'm sure worth the effort! Would be nice to see some more pics of everything, so much details, not enough pics ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264114-my-new-army-howling-griffons/page/2/#findComment-3223597 Share on other sites

sugar-free
ok all here are my yellows http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/6134/s6301848.jpg it goes: base coat, layer, layer, and layer. then i mix flash gitz with alittle bit of white to do a edging. oh by the way i didn't realize that i had two containers of yriel yellow in there. so it's base, layer, and layer. sometimes i will use just white to edge the spots that should be the brightest. I then go back and do a light ink with casandora shade and then black line with doombull. http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5789/s6301849u.jpg now reds http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/8147/s6301847.jpg base, layer, layer, layer, edging. and sometimes a spot edging by mixing white with fire dragon. then i use black to black line the red side. i love this glaze medium. http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/6069/s6301859.jpg http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/7766/s6301862.jpg http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6475/s6301863r.jpg my commander again. sorry i can't seem to take a good pic of him. he is done besides his base. when i get the base done i will put him up on hall of honor. http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/7103/commamder2.jpg http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/1443/commanderu.jpg now for some troopies http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/50/s6301742.jpg i had to redo my reds first pick is the dark one i like the lighter red under http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/604/s6301842.jpg http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8411/s6301888.jpg now i have started a post in hall of honor with the termies. they are all done. i will soon put up the scouts and commander up there too. irwit
This is easily the most dedicated blog I have seen. Doing a single character in that scheme would do my head in let alone an entire army!!! My only small crit if anything is that I don't think your bases are doing your minis justice at the moment, just look a little flat compared to ll the beautiful shading you have on the marines?
