Advice for weighing down Raptor bases (see conversion pic)

Hi everyone, I've converted my Raptors to be standing on Imperial Guardsmen (I was going for that impact hit you get when you charge into assault) and I'm looking for advice on what I can add to my Raptor's bases to help them balance a bit better.

Apologies for the poor quality of the picture.

As the pin through the Guardsman runs underneath the base I can't glue a coin there, so I've packed the underside of the bases with Bluetack (but can remove it if anyone's got a better idea). I've also added some small bits of slate to the top of the base, but the models are still a bit wobbly. Any ideas on what I could use to weigh them down more?

Also, any advice on how I can convert the Raptors with Meltaguns (not in the pic) to make the gun look 'different'? I've entered a GW Killteam tournament and you can make a couple of your guys into Specialists but are supposed to convert them if you do. As they're allowing ANY of the USRs in the rulebook(!) I've gone for Torrent on one Meltagun and Large Blast on the other. I know firing big template S8 AP2 shots around isn't very friendly, but I figure that's what everyone else will be doing too!

So I need to convert the Meltaguns to suggest they're modified, but still have them fit into my Slaanesh army after the tournament. Any advice would be cool as I'm struggling.

Thanks a lot!

Small fishing weights. a fella at my local club has just done the same sort of thing, took a plain base in with him and just tried out what size fitted then superglued them in. quite cheap too apparently. or if buying them is an issue can you cut a chink out of a coin for where the pin goes through the base?? hopefully that might help.

Lead weight for pine wood derby cars. Comes in small strips that you can break pieces off and glue under the base. You could also cut the rectangular pieces up easily and glue pieces of them on top of the base as well.

Small change coins. One or two seem to fit right under the round base and weigh it down just fine.

Yeah this. If you're uk based I usually use a couple of 2p pieces glued under the base - decent job, 4p a model!

Love the poses by the way.

Re. the meltagun conversions I'd maybe try and show 'supercharged' weapons somehow, maybe by linking to back-pank tanks or making them double-barrelled or something..? Just a thought.

Nice conversions on the Raptors - having them strking in to those Guardsmen is a great touch, though I must admit it's a little familiar - I can't quite think where I've seen it before though... ;) :P :P

To weigh down my Raptors I stuck a 1p piece, and bulked over this with Modelling Putty. There's one which won't stay up, because I've given them all scenic bases though my intention is to add more on the base itself, at the bottom of the pieces of ruins the Raptors are 'leaping' off, to add more stability.

I hope that helps! :P

Thanks for all the advice guys. Because I've run a paper clip through the guardsmen's legs and then under the base I can't really fit coins under there. But lead weights sound like the way to go, so I'll visit my local fishing shop and see what they've got.

Firestorm40k - Love your Raptor conversion, that sergeant's head is just ideal for 'guardsman being abused' type conversions. I found bending the new Raptor kit's toes up easy (because they're separate bits now) but it can't have been fun doing that by hand!

Thing is, tuppences fit to the bottom rim of the base but pennies fit inside the bottom of the base. I'd consider using pennies first as they are automatically hidden under normal 25mm bases.

Instead of weighing down the bases, have you considered rotating the guardsmen by 180 degree, so that they would fall onto the base? It looks like that might help with their balance.

Regarding the meltagun conversion you could try to build an equivalent to the plasmablaster from forgeworlds cataphractii special weapons set link

Thanks very much - I must admit no toe bending was required because I used the Berzerker Legs (seeing as I finished assembling my Raptors at least 18 months before the new models were released :D :) )
