Of Berzerkers and Chainaxes

Simple one really - as above.

I have a mob of 13 Berzerkers that have seen quite a lot of effective service up to this point, but the high use of powered armour amongst the Emperor's lackeys hereabouts makes me think that a little more punch might be useful.

On the other hand they are 3 points a pop, and in a squad of that size I'm thinking that the points saved by not taking them can be used elsewhere to better effect. After all, my 'zerkers are still carving the tin cans open pretty well already.

Opinions?

I think they're too expensive overall. At one point, I would take them.

Infact I think they should've been 1 point for ap5.

Adding a few to a squad as point fillers is fine. I'd say give one to the champion if you didn't take a power weapon for some reason but his is even more expensive.

2 points/1 point would have been perfect, they feel to expensive now.

However, if you know your up against Orks/Nids/non-meq armies, they are worth the effort (I think).

For awesomeness I'll include them anyway. I didn't invent the sword/axe difference bull GW has come up with this edition.

Cheers,

I agree with him.

too pricey for a unit, especially a unit that doesn't really struggle with mowing down light infantry. It's a decent budget (and fluffy) option for a Skull champ though, if you need to trim 7 points or so.

Personally, I'd only take them if I could spare the points. Even then, it'd only be 2-3 models per squad - against most 4+ save enemies (or worse), you probably don't need the help killing them but it means that your squad is still a threat even if it's taken heavy casualties.

So that leads me to a follow-up question:

Power Sword, Power Axe or Power Fist for the champ?

Since we have to challenge, always, Power Sword for me.

Cheers,

Even better: go with a single lightning claw. Unless my probability-fu is failing me, they end up with a roughly equal average number of MEq kills (the Shred rule makes up for the lost attack pretty much exactly), but it also helps with higher-toughness enemies if you need to. Against low-toughness enemies it's slightly worse, but then I doubt you'd really need an advantage over them.

Or hell, if you have the points, grab a lightning claw and a power fist. Whichever one you choose to use will get +1 attack for two Specialist Weapons :P But it's crazy expensive...
