the new SW grey replacement colour fenius grey

so i ran out of SW grey the other week , and went to my LGS to get another pot , only to find that the colour has been replaced and id no longer available . the alternate colour is fineus grey .

it is darker then the old SW grey , it contrasts better with yellow to make the shoulder colour pop which is nice . I would probably have prefered this new colour to the old one all along if i didn't already have 10kpoints of models painted in the old SW grey colour .

anyone have a colour they use that is closer to the old SW grey than this new GW version ? or know how to cut the new one to be closer to the old one ?

I discovered this as well. I ran down to my FLGS who keeps a small box of the old pots, and luckily he had some SW gray, so I bought it all. I'm set for awhile now.

The new color, Fenrisian Grey, is quite a bit darker. It's closer to the mix a lot of people used, mixing SW and Shadow grey 50/50. I'm using it as a basecoat and drybrushing with SW gray for highlights now. I think if you want to make them match you could cut the new color with some white and/or whatever they replaced Fortress Gray with, if they did.

There are some SW gray auctions on eBay as well.

Halfway through my army I ran out of both Shadow Grey and Space Wolves grey and was forced to buy the new ones.

Only if you look closely under a lamp can you see the difference between my old and new Space Wolves.

Suffice to say I'm very happy with the newer paints.

You could also try Vallejo Game Color line. I think the equivalent for SWGrey is Wolf Gray. I use that and one called Sombre Gray (that is almost identical to GW's old Shadow Grey).

Hope this helps.

I will agree with PupLord on this one. I've been using Vallejo GC Wolf Grey and Sombre Grey for a long time now. I have noticed less difference than when I tried to switch to the new GW paint scheme. There are SOME Vallejo Game Color paints that didn't really match the intended GW color exactly (Bloody Red and Cobra Leather come to mind), but Wolf Grey and Sombre Grey were spot on for me.

YMMV.

Valeo color still matches IMO

New GW color is sticking to my brushes and ruining my brush tips almost weekly. I do not experience this with valeo game color paints.

The Fang, Russ Grey, and Fenrisian Grey are super easy though. No mixing, just throw them layers down.

DO you have a picture of the three colours layered together as you describe? If so I'd be interested to see it.

As for the paints ruining brushes thats something I've not heard before - how are you cleaing them after use and do you ever use brush soap on them after use (you could try a little bit of human hair conditioner on them as a replacement for soap)? How far up the tip are you allowing paint? I try not to let it go more than around halfway up myself and I NEVER let it get to the metal banding (the ferulle I think its called) as thats almsoa guaranteed death sentence for a brush.

Im at work at themoment, i will get a pic up once im home.

I let it get about halfway up the brush, never the ferul, faerulle, ... The metal lol

It just seems to dry fast as hell into the brush and makes it real thick and fat, eventually ruining the tip.

I eventually clean it off with acetone and its good as new.

I wash my brush in water, no soap. Although i have been painting, as a hobby, for 12 - 14 years and have never had issue like this. Not horrible, but makes me prefer valeo and older gw paints.
