During the great crusade the 13th company of nightlords were responsible for keeping the lawless worlds that the imperial army could not contain from open rebellion, lead by the fanatical leader Captain Axarl Vandrathion. Vandration believed that the best way to stop an uprising was to slay the leader in a gruesome and public way. To inspire fear with in a populace just as his primarch had in the years before the emperors coming to nostramo. During the heresy the 13th were summoned along with the rest of the legion to istann IV. He executed the will of his primarch and slaughters many of the enemy personally seeking the enemy commanders down and challenging them to single combat, during the battle of istann five he claimed no less than 5 helms of the fallen loyalists.

During the siege of terror the 13th company butchered there way ahead of the attramentar slaying all those who were unlucky enough to get in there way, in a bloody duel to the death Vandration slew a lord commander of the imperial fists atop the battlements.

After the heresy the 13th company along with the rest of the legion retreated to the world of tsualga however it was during this time that the warriors of the 13th grew restless. They were not adapting world to having a stationary base since the destruction of nostramo they couldn’t adapt to this new environment but the gritted their teeth and obeyed the orders of curze, trusting in the primarchs will.

After the assassination of curze the 13th began staging raids further and further away from tsaluga choosing not to share the spoils of the labor with the rest of the legion, eventually the Vandration decided not to return at all taking his warship “the Endless Dark” and leading his warriors to the ghost stars in hope of finding a rich new populace from which to recruit new member for his war band.

It was during this time that the 13th began a Fear campaign through the Eastern fringe of the galaxy, developing new ways of scarring a populace into surrender became the ambition of the Fanatical captain and as a result he made a great many packs with the dark mechnicus, He earned the title of “Thunder king” after a he slew an enemy war bands hell drake demon engine by launching with his jump pack into the beasts line of movement and with an all mighty crash of him power axe severing the beasts head. As a tribute for slaying such a beast the enemy warlord conceded the battle and swore an oath of fealty to Vandration and commissioned the beasts head to be re-forged into a great weapon.

The Thunder king fights at the front of his vast armies believing that he must inspire the men he commands, forcing the enemy into surrender, assimilating the enemy into his armies or annihilating them completely.

Unlike many leaders of the nightlords warbands The Thunder king believes that he must amass the power to take on the imperium single handedly and thus will assimulate any chaos space marine, space marine or humans who will fight for his cause.
