Pre heresy colors question

Just wondering if anyone has a solid answer as to what pre heresy space wolves had on their shoulders. I was just searching around on google and found dozens of examples of what people have done with theirs, but does anyone know for sure? Were their still pack markings? Great Company markings? Was their a legion mark in place of a great company mark? That kind of thing. Any info would be appreciated.

I believe in the 2E Codex they (SW) had yelloe armor with a tiger striped camo pattern and then there is the layered plate armor that some like due to artwork of Leman Russ sporting it. You may also consider, IIRC, that Leman Russ commanded the 6th Legion if you wish to go with gothic numerals.

the pic in that link coincides with the Visions of Heresy art: Dark Grey armor, with a red wolf on the right shoulder. Left shoulder could be anything, completely up to you.

For my part, I've changed my wolves, in that Great Companies still existed back then, so I replaced the red wolf with a company emblem of my own choosing.

This is spot on. It is also in the Index Astartes books which gives the colour scheme of most of the original 18 legions before and after the Heresy.
