Coopervisor
Because I'm terrible at sticking to a single idea, I'm wondering if I could mix Imperial Fists and Blood Angels in the same legion force? I know both legions were at the defence of Terra, but how closely did they work together? Daevyll
Because I'm terrible at sticking to a single idea, I'm wondering if I could mix Imperial Fists and Blood Angels in the same legion force? I know both legions were at the defence of Terra, but how closely did they work together? Well perhaps there was an orderly separation of duties to start with, but their forces were bound to get mixed up during a battle as epic as the battle for Terra. I can easily see a senior officer taking command of an ad-hoc combination of BA and IF squads in such a situation. So I'd say go for it if it's what you want to do :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264325-mix-of-legions-for-heresy-era/#findComment-3220539 Share on other sites
Olis
Considering some Expedition fleets came together to fight a considerable foe, you could just field a joint force from one of those, fluffwise. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264325-mix-of-legions-for-heresy-era/#findComment-3220574 Share on other sites
jeremy1391
Allies are your friend lol. I was actually planning on throwing in a few squads of BA assault marines with a chaplain as Allies to my defence of terra Imperial fist army. StrayCatt
There will be, IMO, two ways to do this ... The first, and simplest way, would be to use the Legion Astartes list, and simply build your army from there, and apply whatever iconography you want to the individual marines. They would not have the special rules for any specific legion, but would be legal by the RAW. The alternative, is once the specific legion rules for the legions you want to use is available, you simply ally them, as others have said. -Adam Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264325-mix-of-legions-for-heresy-era/#findComment-3221141 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Betrayal book on p. 184-185 has rules for an allied detachement. So you get your main force and then you are allowed one allied detachment (which must have at least an HQ and a Troops choice) Also there is a table depicting the levels of "alliances" between legions. You are in luck because Imperial Fists and Blood Angels are "Sworn Brothers"; the best level of alliance possible. Since the Army list of the book is a generic one for all legions at the dawn of the Heresy you can use it to build two forces at the same time - your main one and the allied detachement. Good luck and post pics! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264325-mix-of-legions-for-heresy-era/#findComment-3221214 Share on other sites

This opens up more versatile lists, such as allowing drop pods, but only required for part of the force. For example you could have an Iron Fists contingent made of long ranged artillery and have a Blood Angels contingent deep strike in drop pods.
