Space wolves and Jet bikes.

So my little great company is slowly growing, but from nowhere a little book called the Horus Heresy betrayal dropped down in my lap, it. With a great interest I began to read it and drooled over the the options and squads that you can make with a legion army. So now I have begun pondering if I should start a even another army, or use my great company as it is today and add some FW stuff and sometimes pretend it is a Heresy army (My Wolves are grey as in the Heresy anyhow). If I began another army it would be Ultramarines, which I always thought as boring, but in my old age have started to look at with a different approach.

Anyhow when reading through the lists, I was wondering a couple of questions regarding the wolves and the squads in The betrayal.

I love fast attack squads and when I today saw the new Jet bikes, I spontaneously bought four of them. Do you think Russ would have approved of flying bikes, as according to the codex liked to fight with both feet on the ground? Maybe I just should let them rest in the closet with my half built skaven army after I have put them together.

Rune priest in an Heresy army is easily translated to a Consul, but what about wolf priests? Did they have them or were they something completely different during that era?

I know that Space wolves had Long Fang packs (Horus heresy-Collected visions p35), should I just use them as an ordinary Legion Heavy support squad or do you have any other ideas? My group is not against using house rules as long they are fair and fluffy. According to the picture in Collected vision, the Long fangs are using different weapons, which might be HB just different patterns. 9 Long fangs who can divide up their target, just like our codex Long fangs seems either extremely over the top or just pointless.

Otherwise I think you can use the legion list as a pure Space wolf list, with some minor tweaking and count as. Sure wulfen, fenrisian wolves and Wolf guard are not in the legion list, but those I can wait for till FW have made up rules for them or just ignore the squads as I do with the fenrisian wolves today.

Are you looking for counts as SM Bike unit? Your army your call, the fluff and overall look is totally up to you. I as a player would have no problem with you counting them as a SM Bike and playing against you. In fact I love it when I see something new and fun on the table. I am sure they would be great conversions to behold. If you do end up building them in this way, you will of course post some pics.

Vrox.

Thank you for the fast replies.

So it is settled then, then the jet bikes will be Space wolves, they have now gotten a higher priority.

@WG vrox. In ordinary games I may use them as ordinary bikes, I do not think my group will object, if they do, I will just point out other conversions they have. <_<

I say just ignore this Russ quote as it's silly. :P

I think its overthought.

I to prefer to fight on the ground- wrestling in a tree is far more dangerous, footing is more treacherous, and more people get hurt by falling then by combat. In boat boarding actions plenty of people just fell off and drowned.....

Fighting on my own to feet, on solid earth, is much better. But you fight where you must.

Agreed, especially given his use of an assault ship to arrive on Prospero (can't recall off hand whether it was a tHunderhamk or Stormbird, but it doesn't sound like fighting with both feet on the ground.

I think it was just another example of his 'playing the barbarian chief'. ;)

Hopefully we'll get our own 30K list in due course, in the meantime I'll crack on with the great version done by Tempus Fugitives ;)
