The Wolves in 6th Ed?

igknot broke down and bought a Castius Ram for his Wolf Guard and then got a Valk for his (allied) Aett Guard. He's having too much fun playing Chaos right now tho....

I personally am having trouble with fliers and am looking hard at a Mortis. (and waiting for a new book)

Not too many flyers around here yet but ill comment on DPs. Ive been running DPs for quite awhile now and I love them. Now with the changes to deployment from 2" to 6" our podded melta and even rapid firing have become better and more reliable.

In addition more reliable reserve rolls coupled with the general reduced effectiveness of transports plus the additional drawbacks of the damage chart on embarked units make pods very appealing.

Lastly with the addition of first blood and linebreaker, plus the fact that wolves generally excel within 12-24" means drop pods are now IMO one of our premier transport options.

Edit- actually I will say this on flyers, SW dont seem to suffer too much against most flyers (at least the ones ive faced) simply due to the number of bodies we can put down. Usually flyers are a give and take between good firepower and unreliable non contesting units. My point is if someone invests too much in flyers they run the risk of getting overwhelmed quickly and then cant recover in time.

That being said the heldrake with baleflamer might be the exception. That thing scares me but im not going to adjust my entire army to deal with it...yet. If/when I start to see these spammed I will likely be looking for allied support.

Drop Pod lists are very viable. As has already been mentioned, the changes from 2" to 6" is huge. Coupled with the amount of combi weapons we can bring to bear with Wolf Guard in addition to our Gray Hunter Packs, you can do serious damage to your opponent. My goup plays with Forge World units & armies so I have a Contemptor & currently proxing a Lucius DP till I can convert one & have to say love it. Death wind DP's are also very useful.

As for flyers, so far not impressed. Get in close to your opponent & that alone limits them. Getting mid board where we Wolves excel also usually gives you a chance to open up at the rear armour if you have the upper hand on the ground with a pack of GH. Massed bolter fire, even snap shooting, will usualy bring them down.
