Dark Mechanicus + Chaos SM joint force

Recommended Posts

All hail the Omnissiah!

Hey guys, I'm studying carefully my options on building my CSM force, and I'm decided on doing The Fallen, the Dark Angels traitors. They don't really operate in numbers, and surely they don't have an armoury available to them. So I'm considering this idea for an army:

A Dark Mechanicum sect, in need to warriors to provide self-defense against the latest Imperial incursions in their Warp space/rift, hired some CSMs - namely one of the former traitor company masters from the Dark Angels, that managed to keep an small group under his command. Since the DarkMech don't really care about their allegiances, they recruited several smaller, ragtag bands of marines as well, and put all of them under this Company Master command. They act as an strike force as well, raiding forgeworlds to steal imperial tech as well. That way I can mix cult units, since The Fallen can go any way we want, they can be Fallen that dedicated themselves to one of the gods, or simply smaller warbands serving the DarkMech under the command of fallen Company Master.

All equipment used by those CSMs are provided by this DarkMech sect, from Rhinos to heavy weaponry. All vehicles and daemon engines would bear the DarkMech logo, and even some heavy units would be in fact DarkMech agents - that would explain how The Fallen would get their Rhinos and bikes, and would make possible to give a very strong DarkMech look to the army.

I'm considering, to make modeling easier, use a simpler symbol for this specific DarkMech sect, that would be an all-seeing eye over a black and white cog. Some vehicles would have the CSM warband heraldry, but have the same all-seeing eye in some place, as a mark telling where it really came from.

About the miniatures/units, I have some ideas. I'm planning on painting them jet black, with brass or silver trims, and hazard stripes, Iron Warriors style. I'll spare you guys from the CSM units, and discuss only the count-as DarkMech units here:

For cultists, I'm thinking about the Iron Brotherhood minis from Microart. Like these for CCW+Pistol cultists:

And this guy for the cultist champion:

And those for autogun armed cultists:

I'm thinking of, instead of using CSMs for an havoc unit, have combat servitors unit equipped with Heavy Weapons, commanded by a techmarine counting-as the champion (the cybernetics could justify the PA stats - I would use a meaner looking techmarine) :

For obliterators, how about these? (Don't mind the names)

I need to go now, I'll come back later and continue on this! C&C please! ;)

Thanks Vesper!

Getting back to it, those are the minis I'm planning to use as terminators. The weapon loadout would need some coversion work, I think. Picture them black, with hazard stripes on the diagonal strips over the legs and that DarkMech logo I described on those shoulder pads. And what color do you guys suggest for the capes? Red or black? DarkMech usually cries for black, but I think maybe it would be too much black and boring in this case. What you guys suggest?

About that standard bearer, I'm considering filling the blank cogs with my DarkMech logo, and the mark of the god that I´ll put on them.

I'm thinking on using this guy as count-as Abaddon:

And this one as Wapsmith, but with some conversion as well:

I used Therians from the old Rackham game AT-43 for my legio cybernetica-counts-as-daemons, exspecially omega timat and Bane goliaths really captured the dark mech feel for me. now that rackham is no more, they sometimes bubble up on ebay for cheap. they come pre-painted and the material is soft plastic, but what gives. colorwise, I used mostly dark metals and a little dark red, lined with boltgun metal, but then most of it had to fit into the scheme of my Iron Warriors.

I'm considering those for count-as spawns, considering that the DarkMech wouldn't restrain themselves from using robots:

But I would fill those necron-like details in the back, and "mechanize" it a bit more, with a more appropriate halberd, and changing the face a bit, to resemble more the designs from the Horus Heresy Collected Visions book.
