heresy death guard

Recommended Posts

hey guys

after seeing the pdf tutorial that forgeworld produced, i thought i would give the deathguard scheme a bash

changed the main basecoat colour from the tutorial and added some weathering

first painted mini in a long time so not thinking its to bad

really looking forward to doing a whole army of these

will hope to update this as often as i can

anyway..on to the tester

still needs a bit more highlighting to the metals

Excellent work so far, when are the arms going to get done? :tu:

well you could say my marines are quite "armless".... ;) sorry, bad bad joke

as these are just tester marines i just use the basics as a sorta bust to try out the schemes..

i am hoping that when the arms and backpack are on there should be no difference to the painting..

fresh off the painting line though is the next tester...damn these guys paint up fast

and a comparison with the first deathguard

very happy that the second has turned out like the first...now can get on with the building of this force

think i might try going for a metal color to the collars though...to provide a bit more contrast

thanks again for your comments, very appreciated

cheers for the replies guys!

@batu..wasnt sure at first with weathering the grill, but really like it now..good that it was noticed

@ludovic...really suprised myself at how quick these paint up...im used to spending 4+hours on a marine..to get to this stage is about half hour..will assume that will only take another half hour to do the shoulderpads and bolter

@cypher 89...will lay out the steps and paints used and hope this helps you...

the models were first primed with vallejo grey primer through an airbrush..

then was given a smooth, flat coat of vallejo model color off-white through an airbrush..(thanks again to b&c member deamonclaw for doing the airbrushing :D )

the silver was done with chainmail then washed with nuln oil

the brass was done with vallejo model color brass then washed with agrax eartshade

then the model was sponge weathered with vallejo model air german camo black/brown

any clean up work was then done with the off-white

wash the white areas of the model with a 50/50 mix of seraphim sepia and lahmian medium

pick out all the rivets and select highlights with off white

highlight silver with chainmail and brass with vallejo model air bright brass

pigment of your choice to the feet and face grills

things to note...the model looks pants before it is washed..and it looks awful while the sepia is drying..seems to come together when the rivets have been re-done

all the details were painted first as i find it easier to clean up any mistakes with the basecoat color before it is washed.

the forgeworld tutorial uses skull white as the base coat...i only used off white as it takes some of the harshness away from pure white and looks more natural...army painter bone may work just aswell

its a good idea to mix the sepia and medium in a pot than try and do it per model..plus you should get a uniform look across the army.

the airbrushing of the basecoats is the key to really speeding these boys up..also seems to help the sepia wash do its job...i tried this color scheme on a model i basecoated off-white with a paintbrush and besides the sheer time it took to get a half decent coat on the model, the wash didnt settle that well...will put a picture up at some point for comparison.

hope this helps and thanks again for the comments guys :P
