Dark3lement
yesterday i did a battle against chaos with this list: 1 Rune priest (Divination, Prescience,Perfect timing) "reroll to hit and ingore cover" -Master of runes 10 Grey hunters -MotW,Standard,2 plasma gun 10 Grey hunterq -MotW,Standard,2 plasma gun 10 Grey hunters -MotW,Standard,2 melta gun 3x Wolf guard in TDA -3xPower axe 5x Long fangs -4x Missile Launchers each wolf guard joins a grey hunter squad and the rune priest joins the long fangs my opponent was fielding 2 units of khorne berserkers in rhino's 1 unit of plague marines and 2 obliterators. overall the battlme went rlly well with me getting first blood by wrecking the rhino and killing both his khorne berserkers squad with the long fangs and a pack of grey hunters. The obliterators were kinda nasty with the plasma cannon but the unit that rlly was painfull where the plague marine's (thougness 5 :s ) it was like hitting a brick wall:s anyone any thoughts in how to handle these guy's?? thx:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/264703-space-wolves-vs-chaos/ Share on other sites
Gen. Confusion
The problem was that you charged the plague marines. Just sit back and unload ap2 and ap3 shots on them. With area cover and feel no pain a 5+ save. They will go away. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Actually, I faced an all-Plague Marine army recently (with a Forgefiend and Vindicator providing heavy support) and did very well in close combat. The 'rending' rule of the Wulfen, the Wolf Standard and the presence of power axes in my Hunter units transformed the assaults. Yes, I did soak up casualties, but I outnumbered him anyway (as any SW player should do). I was forced to get in close as his Vindicator and Forgefiend took out my heavy support on turn 1 (I totally screwed up deployment, it'd been a long day...). Two units of Grey Hunters managed to take out two Plague Marine squads and a Sorceror. I really rate the ability of Grey Hunters to weather assaults and deliver them, but if you intend them to do well in CC I'd recommend throwing in a power axe as well as the Wulfen to even the field. More than happy for more experienced Wolves to discredit me however. edit: although against the army you were facing, the above gent is probably right - with Khorne Berserkers supporting Plague Marines it'd have been best to sit back and pound them from afar with your superior ranged capability until the very last moment.
