Horus Heresy Tactia: Legion Praetor

Recommended Posts

I intend to keep my praetor simple

Artificer armour, iron halo, paragon blade, combi melts and digital weapons.

The combi melts allows for a kill shot before the charge or will pop a transport to allow a charge

Iron halo keeps him alive and digital weapons increases the kill tally.

I see the paragon blade as a must. It has all of the good abilities of the power weapon family, but non of the draw backs.

Not so keen on bike, jump pack or jet bike. Since they do not allow any flexibility in the command squad.

Agreed, that keeping him simple is the best way to go, and why wouldn't you take a paragon blade. I would double check the shooting a transport and then charging the unit. I think if you shoot the vehicle and destroy it you can't then charge the unit that was inside. I would keep bike, jump pack, and jet bike in mind since the command squad can take them too, and it gives the Praetor and his squad mobility to get them where you need them but also get them out of places where you don't want them. Finally, terminator armor is always fun if you have more points than you know what to do with.
Page 80 of the rulebook (just below the 'Explodes!') section says that all models in a unit shot at the same time so you can't target the disembarked squad with the remaining shots. However it specifically says you can charge a unit in the assault phase if you shot at it in the shooting phase and are allowed (i.e. assault weapons).

Thanks Tunor's_Hammer

I was sure you couldn't shot a vehicle and then assault the unit inside. I've lost a few Rhinos but the squad never got assaulted. I just couldn't remember the exact wording and rule or page number.
