Wolves of Fenris

Garrosh

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've been a member here for a while but haven't really posted alot. Frankly, I'm more than a little intimidated by you guys but I figure I'll go ahead and start putting up pics of my wolves. First up is my custom Logan Grimnar. I just don't care for GW's model and I wanted to do my own thing. He doesn't have a mustache anymore. I had added one with green stuff but my feeble skills in the medium became apparent when it fell off during painting. I did add the hair on top of his head though. So, my Logan is clean shaven. Here he is:

Not the greatest pic I know, but I'm working with my phone. C&C welcome, just be gentle please..lol. More stuff to follow as I get pictures. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the kind words brothers, and Irwit thanks for the photo advice. I'll put more stuff up once I get some more decent pics. Perhaps over the weekend. Oh and I had to add the decapitated Thousand Son. Dirty traitors. ;)

Got a few more here. Once again sorry if the quality of the pics is bad. Seems like no matter what I do I just can't get decent light. Anyway, here we go. First up is a Wolguard Battle Leader. I use him in place of a Wolf Lord or a named HQ. Hi name is Gunnyr Wulfson and eventually he will be accompanied by a pair of Fenrisian wolves.

Next up is my Ragnar. Once again I hate the GW model. It's so static for what should be a very cocl looking character. Looking at him now I can see a few things I need to fix but I'm about 90% happy with the way he turned out.

and from the back

A squad of Grey Hunters. They are led by a Wolf Guard with a combi melta and power fist. Future squads will have a slightly different look since I've changed my paint scheme slightly.

My first squad of Wolf Scouts. Painted these over a year ago and they're not great but here they are.

Lastly, my first Blood Claws. As with the scouts they were painted over a year ago. I was sort of relearning how to paint so I'mnot super happy with them but they're painted so I'm not gonna complain too much.

Now I realize most pf these are not properly based. I'm notorious for that. Now that I want to start basing I'm having trouble finding the snow basing material I want to use. Luckily I have the internet so I can find it somewhere I'm sure. On an unrelated note I need some advice. I'm looking for some copper paint for a different project. Can anyone recommend one? I'm not married to a brand. Right now I use GW, P3, Army Painter and sometimes Vallejo. Whatever seems right at the time. Thanks for looking and as always c&c welcome. :D

Been a looong while since myself or anyone else posted here but I figured I'd go ahead and post up my latest work. Just been really busy and I haven't had as much time as I'd like to paint. Such is life I suppose. Anyway, here he is. My Wolf Priest in terminator armor conversion. He doesn't have any really difficult converion work done on him just some basic stuff really. Not sure how well it shows in the pics but I did some "sculpting" on his cloak. Just put down a layer of green stuff and went to work on it with a phillips screwdriver. I think it has a nice fur look to it but you guys can be the judge. As alway, comments are welcome.

That's a badass crozius arcanum! You're great at posing your models, but I think a little bit more depth would work wonders to sharpen the paintjob. Try leaving primer black in more crevices of your models: you prime them for a reason, so might as well relax and let it do some of the work for you!

'aight, models look great. Fine tabletop. 3

Your Grimnar is the one I like best, though he seems to be looking down a little (bad angle?).

One thing made me cringe, though: Some of the bases. Grimnar has got an awesome base, the chaplain looks decent and the backside of ragnar's is wonderful too.

But the front of ragnar's base and your wulfguards base is just way beond your level! With the rest looking good, it looks a bit half-arsed to be perfectly honest. The good ones have got colour and drybrush, tipped off with a little snow or grass.

The wulfguard just has grass straight on the base and ragnar just got a mess of grass and snow.

Please correct that, get your bases on level with the minis they hold. It'll do your paintjob much more justice.

And, though it may just be me, black bases looks a lot better in my oppinion. For instance you can see the brown on the edges of the Chaplain's snow, wouldn't it be more subtle if it was just black? Up to you.

Keep it up.

Love that wolf chaplain guy. Base is awesome too!

Personally I'm a bit torn between black bases and coloured ones, especially with snow. I think its a bit too much contrast going black but coloured does look a bit naff as well. I did black bases with snow on my first lot of Grey Hunters and I don't think it worked amazingly.

Personally I don't mind the brown on yours, keeps the model as the focus of your attention. Black on white is as high contrast as you can get and having that on the bottom of what your mini is sitting on doesn't help draw your eye to the model.

I will freely admit that bases are one of my weakest things. I do prefer painted bases, but it sometimes takes me a while to get around to doing them. The wolfguard was an early attempt and I really didn't do a lot on him. I will admit it needs work. Personally I like the chaplain's base best. Altho I am proud of his and Logan's. I will say that I do not intend to put a ton of detail or attention into the bases of all my minis. Characters or pieces I want to stand out will get a much more detailed and scenic base than just rank and file troops. Sorry, but I just don't have the time or resources to make all the bases fancy. Ultimately it comes down to what makes the individual happy. Some might call it half assing and I'm ok with that I suppose. All that being said, I really appreciate all the comments. Everything you guys leave helps make me a better painter and frankly that's why I posted this stuff in the first place. So many of you are such amazing painters it made me nervous to even post in the first place but this is a really good community full of helpful folks. Keep them coming brothers. I'm a son of Russ, I can take it. Thanks guys.
