Wanton Abandon - Slaaneshi Chaos Marines

clever handle

Recommended Posts

Here are a couple of shots of a dozen noise marines I made a while ago. I currently have less than 1500 points of finished marines when utilizing the newest Chaos codex. I will be painting this force up to 2,000 points & then beginning my Disciples of the Dragon warhost (can you guess what will feature heavily there?)

These guys were my first army & the pink is quite flat. With the release of the new paints I have slowly been "upgrading" the paint scheme. I have never known what colour to paint the backpacks on my guys. I worry that gold would be too overpowering & have always felt that the featureless slab of pink is dull. Any suggestions?

Still nothing too fancy here. I will probably try out some free hand, or at least some interesting swirl-type patterns as I repaint these guys in the new GW pink line.

I approve! B)

You've got a really lovely pink going on there, perfect for Slaaneshi worshippers.

Good job with the Autocannon conversions. I may have to steal that idea. ;)

My favourite though is definitley the Land Raider. Those spectral parts look brilliant!

You mentioned at the end of the last post that you are going to re-paint them in the new pinks. Is that just because you prefer the tone of the new pinks or because you'd like to have another go at painting these? Personally, I think they are pretty good as they are.

Thanks, I'm repainting the marines because I had initially tried to do a zenith type highlighting but the blending isn't very good in many places. I never liked the look of edge highlighting on models and when I did try was never satisfied with the results. I have reviewed FTW's how to paint pink articles & will be attempting to replicate the effect.

Any suggestions for the backpacks? The unfinished steel isn't great & as I said I think gold will be too much. Maybe a place to try out edge highlighting on the pink?

I think the backpacks look good, but the bright gold jars too much with them and the pink.

I think that if you give the gold a wash (brown, then purple?) youll find that they look better together.

Maybe some highlights on the silver packs, then.

Also, paint the details on them.

I wish I could claim credit for the autocannons but it is a conversion I stole from someone else a long time ago (1+ years?) I'm not sure if it is a cheap conversion either - there are 3 components:

1) The chaos heavy bolter (imperial one works too - one in every kit)

2) The barrel from the reaper autocannon (defiler - two per defiler kit)

3) The ammo drum from an imperial guard HWT (2 per autocannon team - one w/ "bumps" one that is smooth).

I really don't like the look of the imperial autocannon barrel on these - I've seen a tonne of those type of conversions lately & I think the barrel is too oversized compared ot the rest of the gun. I need to find myself a couple of extra autocannon barrels - I had a spare defiler sitting around but returned it for store credit a couple of weeks ago without realizing that I had damned myself to proxying the other autocannons.

  • 1 month later...

some wip picks of my Wanton Abandon squad leaders & HQ's. Modeling is almost complete & painting is about half done, many more layers to come still.

I'm not really a fan of champion 1 or 3, what about the community?

The lord with sanguinary guard bits is a very clever conversion

That siad... THE PINK! MY EYES! GOD IT'S IN MY EYES!!!

;)

Pretty solid work, but as said previously, highlights would make it better (seems to already have some good depth though).

well, I've got about 4 hours of work today & then I'm left to "enjoy" 12 days basically commitment free...... there is a 500pt escalation event next week at the store I play at so I'm doing up as many cultists as I can + the juggerlord for that event, the rest of my time will be spent cleaning up the pink & gold on these boys.... I'll try some extreme highlighting on the pink but I think those lines will be ultra-thin. When looking at the models IRL I already find the pink is VERY bright

I still need to add some chain reigns but I feel that the juggernaught needs some work. Currently I've only added a bit of extra barding peeking out under the lord's foot, but I'm not sure where to go & I'm a bit afraid of overdoing things.

Oh, here is his escort for the 500pt escalation games this week:
