When a Black Shield dies

have there ever been any detail as to what happens to the gene seed of a black shield when he dies?

it would seem unlawful to waist a part of the emperor.

i could see some segments of the I (both pure and rad) taking the geneseed making a new marine and sending them to a different segmentum to help hide the truth.

there could even be radicals that kept some or all of non black shield gene seed (gene seed is destroyed often in battle) in order to form a chapter totally under their control.

That's a good question. I don't know if there is a records of the origin of each black shield, as to be able to send the seeds to the original chapters if it still exist or has not turn to chaos.

In it doesn't exist or has turned, hmm, could be a waste. Would they take a chance and use the seeds again knowing from what chapter it comes from (or not knowing it) and the effect it could have on the marine?

The way I understand the Black Shields, nobody knows from where they came. Could be a pennance, or falling out with his Chapter, or the last of his Chapter. I imaine the recovered geneseed would just be sent to the AdMech after an Inquisitor verified it free of any taint. From there the AdMech would do whatever it does as there is so little in the way of specifics regarding what they actually do. It seems to me that they would be able to determine where he came from (genetically) and "file" it accordingly. Their purpose withing the Empire is clear, but beyond that it's highly speculative.

The Black Shield having fought honorably should receive the same posthumus honors any othe Marine would get. How or why they come into the service of the DeathWatch may be unknown, thatthey serve honorably is never in question. So when they pass they have earned the respect and honors that they not pass into oblivion.
