DHeese
So as the question states, what do you think of having multiple Consuls in an army instead of a single Praetor and single Consul? Olis
I suppose it depends on what battlefield roles you wished to have fulfilled. With one praetor and one consul, you have one very powerful unit that can affect the army's make up itself plus one decent HQ which you can customise, which is strategically quite good. Now, when you say multiple consuls, I assume of a similar points cost to a singular praetor, yes? Let's assume that two consuls (plus upgrades) can equate roughly to one praetor with half-decent gear. Add the aforementioned consul in the previous example and we have three consuls to play with. So, three decent customisable HQ's can fill a variety of roles that, with a large army, could perhaps be more effective tactically than a single praetor + a single consul. So, imho, I'd recommend the bag of consuls if you want better tactical flexibility, but the former option is better for army make-up and strategy. DHeese
You've basically hit my reasoning on the head! I'd probably take (for my eventual AL army) A Moritat, Primus Medicae and a Vigilator, and so there we have three really flexible characters who can buff certain units. Mori= Destroyers, Primus= most likely a vet squad (ad hoc command squad) and Vigilator= Recon squad. Drehn
Unless you need a Rite of War or want a beat stick for a force without a Primarch, Consuls have seemed superior due to versatility. That ability to be precisely what you need is invaluable for building stylized lists. Emperor's Furor
I'm thinking of having three vigilators in my raven guard if I don't have any special characters, 3 Sabotages straight off the bat :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265090-viability-of-multiple-consuls/#findComment-3231130 Share on other sites
caprera
Well if you give up the idea of a close combat HQ you can have two good specialist Consuls even at 2000pts, so Yes, I would use that ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265090-viability-of-multiple-consuls/#findComment-3231575 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
Legions can have 3 HQs according to the force organisation chart, so I could have two Vigilators and a close combat HQ it seems ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265090-viability-of-multiple-consuls/#findComment-3231900 Share on other sites
caprera
You can, it's just going to cost you, but don't overestimate the Vigilators. To me, one is enough... :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265090-viability-of-multiple-consuls/#findComment-3232045 Share on other sites
