Okay,

so dont know if there are any posts on this allready but i thought id give it a go.

- What if the minotaurs are a mix of two chapters gene-seed? Lets say originally when they were founded they were a failed attempt to use World Eaters gene-seed? What if the 21st "cursed" founding was cursed because it was an attempt to use stockpiled clean "traitor" gene-seed?

- Now when this didnt work what if the powers that be decided that they could still salvage the minotaurs and took all their gene seed and spliced in Ultramarine gene-seed to stabilize the berzerkers. Now this is a rough idea so far, but it would play well into why the minotaurs hate the ultramarines......

- So when the high lords decide they will give the minotaurs a second chance and splice in the ultramarine geneseed it comes as part of a deal........the minotaurs answer directly to the high lords and they can never tell of their "split heritage." As a result they get sick of hearing how great their "father, and brothers" are referring to the ultras and all their successors. This is why they then always challenge all other chapters to prove they are the best, and why they like to work alone. kinda sounds like the story behind some greek myth :D fitting i think

Minotaurs hate everyone, not just the Ultra's. Mainly because of their arrogance get's the best of them.

Also I'd say the World Eater gene seed possiblity would only create berzerker like traits, and a envious hate toward Blood Angels. Secondly Minotaur gene seed mixed with Angron's, and Gulliman's in theory would make for one self controlled nut job.

I think thou that the Minotaurs are from Regal Dorn, and Angron geneseed mixed. this would explain their outright zelous abilty with close combat. They answer only to the high lords of terra where the Imperial Fist consider their homeword. their armor is simular in color, and thier love of terminator armor.

I know the "hate" everyone, but it seems they especially have it in for ultra's and their progeny.....and seeing as how the Minotaurs have this "ancient greek" look I thought that the Minotaurs being part Ultra would add quite the "greek tragedy" twist to the whole story :)

- the way im writing my fluff is theres a secret society made up of 5 of the permanent members of the High Lords of Terra....they use the Minotaurs as their "secret police." In my fluff the Minotaurs made a proposition to the 36-38th millenium version.....serve us and we will "repair" your gene-seed. Since the Minotaurs were from the cursed founding and were the most stable of an unstable bunch.

- The Minotaurs are still brutal close combat monsters, the berzerker side of them has just been tempered by the stable Ultramarine gene splicing.

I do want to say as well....

- this Minotaur idea is not totally an idea, mixing gene seed and possible traitor gene stock ideas for the Minotaurs and Blood Ravens are being floated on Dakka Dakka as well. It looks like the thread I was reading was posted in 4/12. Im just flushing out these ideas a bit more and in my direction for my own plot line purposes.

The Minotaurs are the reverse of World Eaters colors, as in, WE are red primary bronze secondary and Minotaurs are bronze primary, red secondary. Honestly I doubt that there is a definitive stance on this even on the designers' side, but they probably did mean to imply that it's possible that they use traitor gene seed, especially as it's stated that their tithes are completely classified which seems odd if they were just another run of the mill IF successor or whatever else. Also, and this is kind of reaching but the WE index astartes did say that there were some in the Imperium that thought that the original WE gene seed was pure and that it was the psycho-surgery that turned them and not an inherent flaw, so maybe some High Lords of this opinion decided to try a little experiment. Oh and it's not so much that they hate the UM as the UM hate them because the Minotaurs pretty much wiped out an UM successor for looking at em funny.

I always wondered if it is rather Iron Warriors geneseed the minotaurs are made of: Hatred against everyone, a paranoid chapter master in a labyrithine battle barge, specialisation on siege warfare, not to mention the strongly greek/OLYMPIAN background...

berzerker-like rages were always depicted as part of the IW style of battle...violence exploding in the short window of opportunity when a wall is breached, with dull long time spans of self-restraint, enduring hardship and efficiently planned constant bombardement in between.

but then, the minotaurs were just berzerker marines in the original WD article. maybe the real dark secret is that the genes spliced into the WE seed to allow for urge control were IW!

- x - = +?

I hope not. But it is typical of GW to take an interesting idea and beat it to death before moving onto the next one.

It started with lamenters, followed by a more extreme example in the Blood Ravens and then every third Space Marine Chapter after that. :(

It started with lamenters

Well, I love IW, so: bonus :(

Wasn't the whole cursed founding kind of about traitor characteristics loyalized anyway? sons of antaeus were basically plague marines iirc.

mutated dragon dudes (AL? EC?) and...what was it with the lamenters? NL?

as for the blood ravens - that background is just about the only thing that makes them cool in my book.

I just think a ole Imperial conspiracy with mysterious gene seeds, genetic splicing, etc, etc....would just be totally cool and typically of the shady underbelly of the power elite in the Imperial world :D

The bronze/greek look of the minotaurs is just really cool to. Ive been looking for a new SM chapter to run with and I think the Minotaurs are definetley gonna be the one for me.

Ok, there's nothing in the background to suggest that the Badab War Minotaurs are the frothing berserkers of the Cursed Founding chapter (for whom the World Eaters theory fits).

They are described as being paranoid in the extreme, with a hint of madness in their defences and security protocols; they are 'masters of siegecraft', they fight in a deliberate and controlled manner using clinical vertical envelopment tactics (pinning an enemy with a vanguard before crushing them with massed firepower and armour). None of this sounds like World Eaters Successors, with the possible exception of 'superior attrition within a confined area', their willingness to sacrifice their own flesh and blood to achieve their battle aims, and being less mindful of the fate of individual battle brothers.

I'm not trolling dude, just saying that there's very little to justfy this popular rumour beyond the fact that it's a rumour. There's also a popular opinion that they hate the Ultramarines despite there only being a single specific example of a Minotaur insulting Marneus Calgar to get a rise out of an Ultramarine successor; if anything it's the other way around due to the Minotaurs' attack on Euxcine 'caring nothing for the causes or rights of the two Chapters'

ideed does sound more like iron warriors, doesn't it? :o
