When did Word Bearers turn red?

Where they red during the Istvaan Massacre? or where they red by the time of the siege of the Emperor's Palace or was it after the Heresy failed?

I'm not 100% but IIRC they were already red on Isvaan V.

For sure they were red on Calth.

Also Furious Abyss WB crew was red.

I think only the Gal-Vorbak were red/black on Istvaan.

 

 

The majority were their normal colours.

Gal Vorbak were the first to be red. By the Word Bearers reached Terra, they were all red. Whether that was to honor the Vorbak, because of actual possession, or as a sort of "new start for our Legion" type of thing, I don't know.

As others have said, only the Gal Vorbak had red armour at the time of the dropsite massacre. By the invasion of Calth (and definitely by the Siege of Terra) the rest of the legion had painted their armour to red.

Red was the colour of open rebelion. During Drop Site Massacre they were still grey, if I remember correct. During the Calth - Red as per Know no Fear. Gal Vorbak repainted their armour red as a symbol of their sacrifice long before the Heresy. So the time the whole legion went red is probably after Drop Site.
