Emperor's Furor
What shade of grey would you suggest it is? Being black would be a bit boring as there's so many black legions already and just being off black wouldn't work either, do you think Stormvermin Fur is right or is it to bright? Olis
I'd personally go for a mix of about 50:50 Black and Grey, or any suitable dark-to-middling grey. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3233445 Share on other sites
Apothecary Vaddon
Stormvermin Fur looks about right. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3233450 Share on other sites
MadDoc
My a suggestion - try Abaddon Black base, Skavenblight Dinge main colour (black lining, i.e. leave black visible at joins between armour plates and in the deepest recesses of the model), sparse highlighting with Eshin Grey, final highlight (edging and high points) with either Stormvermin Fur, Dawnstone or Administratum Grey depending on how bright you want things to look. Â Thats just off the top of my head, but it should provide a reasonably decent scheme without needing to do too much, if any, blending (meaning it will be easily reproducible). Â Edit- It'll also give more depth than using a single shade. Olis
:) Â D'oh! Just looked up what Stormvermin Grey looked like. Yeah, go with that and ignore my previous post. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3233455 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
I'm thinking of going with stormvermin grey with a black wash and highlighted with codex grey? Â What do you think the trim of the Word Bearers pre heresy is? I was thinking it would either bright silver or gold. Â Also considering inscribing the armour if I do decide to go with them, just not sure if I should wait for when they come out in the next book. I'm a little worried they won't have the crusade era shoulder pads. Mike the Zealous
I personally would try Adeptus Battlegrey and work your way up from that if you had it. Either that or working up from a P3 Coal Black base. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3234544 Share on other sites
pingo
Use Army Painter Uniform Grey Primer and do your prime and basecost in one :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3234810 Share on other sites
ulllyssies0110
GW Eshin Grey is a nice dark grey w/ a wash it becomes almost black. Stormvermin is a little to brown for me. But it all comes down to what color you like. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3234833 Share on other sites
Dusktiger
Use Army Painter Uniform Grey Primer and do your prime and basecost in one  Â bad idea. uniform grey is a very very light grey when dry. its lighter than any final highlight grey most painters use on their models. Not in my experience: it's been a mid-grey when I've used it, but each to their own. You're not using hyperbole are you as I can't see it being lighter than grey highlights. Â Even so, one can tone it down with washes or glazes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3235619 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
Forgot Id bid on an old model on ebay, so may paint this guy up in the colours. Olis
Crikey, a classic RT chappy. Although there are exceptions (like that chappy) I've never been a big fan of the old RT models, tbh. Â I'll be interested in seeing what you do with him, brother. Emperor's Furor
I love unique models, especially old one, things you don't tend to see that add a bit of spice to armies and I thought this one would quite cool in word bearers crusade force. Atm I'm contemplating an Ultramarine force, but if this turns out any good, then I may have to reconsider. Olis
Not bad - needs some highlighting and the wash needs to be less prevalent on the armour plate surfaces, mind you. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3237284 Share on other sites
Emperor's Furor
I did it with adeptus battlegrey and a nuln oil wash, should I go over the raised areas with the battlegrey again? Olis
I think so, yes. Perhaps a thinned coat or two, but try very carefully not to get it in the crevices otherwise the wash was for nought. If possible, do a highlight after that has dried. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3237302 Share on other sites

Olis
Well, how many highlight stages are you prepared to do? If it's just the one I'd say yes, go with Codex Grey. If it's more than that I'd mix Adeptus with Codex first and then work your way up to using just Codex for the corners and such. Emperor's Furor
I've never been good with highlighting, I never got my head around it, I don't get how covering what you've painted before works. :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265353-word-bearers-grey/#findComment-3237321 Share on other sites
