aegis defence line

hi brothers,

i'm condsidering about using a Aegis Defence Line as AA option. Because we dont have anything to use apart from the Stormraven. I think i will use ADL with a henchmen squad since they are so cheap. And its twin linked heavy 4. it will hit nearly everytime it shoots with S7. if something comes and kills it we loose nearly 130-140 pts on the table.

by the way its interceptor so we can use it on ground tagets too. and it can fire in the opposing players turn.

and my question is: is it good to use it or not? or do we have any other good options for AA?

It's not good. If your opponent has invested in flyers, they will kill the single gun as a Priority, and have a whole full turn to do so.

I'm begiining to sound like a borken record, and really the B&C should rethink it's stance. All marine armies have fantastic access to dedicated AA.

Allies FTW...

Nope, Henchmen are BS3, it's barely an upgrade from the base BS2. I'd stick a Vindicare on the gun. I'd also go for an Icarus lascannon, its a much better weapon (AP2, higher Strength = likely damage, and you rarely miss with BS8). It's a pretty good anti-air options, but be aware that Flyers armies will make its destruction a high priority. So, you'll probably get a kill on one Flyer as it comes out of Reserve, maybe another while they zip over, but then you are dead.

Sigh, I know man. They made an open thread about it, asking for opinions. They then came back with 'but Mechanicus and Daemons are special cases, no way we could bring in the OTHER Imperial faction that DOMINATES THE WHOLE GAME AND META-GAME'. You can't just section off Allies discussion, none of the xenos forums or general purpose ones (like Whineseer) are doing it. Meh, hopefully the policy changes someday. Till then, only medicore Marine Allies...yay.

Well for me atleast the basic psycannon has been sufficient enough for me. It spits out enough bullets to ensure that something will hit. Added that GK armies today generally have one or two guys casting re-roll to hit psychic power, the chances to hit are increased a bit.

But it all comes down on how many and how often you face flyers. People are ranting about the issues the flyers are causing. I will agree, but atm I have yet to face a flyer army of doom. I will probably never meet one where I live, since Sweden has a comp-system that basically stops it.

So one or two flyers will be no problem to deal with imo. It all comes down to how you play your army.

You are wasting the storm bolter though. This is something that doesn't get mentioned much. You have to waste the whole squads Shooting phase, just for the psycannons to (often) whiff. Even with re-rolls, it takes a lot of psycannon shots to get hits.

How does your comp system prevent IG taking Vendetta squadrons? Or Necrons taking Doom Scythes/Night Scythes? Because if it does, it's dumb and artificial.

Skyfire is a big help against Flyers. We also have our own oft-overlooked Flyer, the Raven. It does a fairly good job shooting down other Flyers (nowhere near as good as the Vendetta, but that thing is broken), and it delivers a melee warband/Purifiers/Paladins from Point A to Point Break Face.
