Like the power packs .they look really good brother.thumbsup.gif

Very glad to hear that! smile.png

I find that this particular, simple yet effective, drybrush-wash-metallic combo does wonders in breaking up the simplistic shapes of the Space Marine miniatures and kinda "resculpts" the whol thing, highlightin detail that otherwise is usually obscured. Just like the back of the powerpacks, for example. The very radiant brass color doesn't really need highlights or wash, it's self-lighting, if you will. It just reflects the surrounding light on its own.

The Venerable Dreadnought is chugging along slowly in my downtime from painting a massive quantity of Grey Knights of all stripes. However, I found out that it'd be a shame to glue it up, since the details on the Marine enclosed inside are pretty nice. Any ideas on how to make the frontal cowl detachable without obscuring any of the nice detail?

That's one lovely Venerable Dread so far, but for me, that shade of green isn't doing it for me. Are you going to shade/darken it up later?

As for the cowling, I would suggest that you pin it, but other than that, all I can suggest is magnets.

Keep up the good work, Brother!

Thanks! smile.png

The Dread is going to get the same treatment as the other minis (so a Nuln Oil wash is the next step), brass will be more like the Terminator one, with rust/patina. In general, the "ancient" armor like TDA and Dreads, maybe vehicles, will have this patina, while the newer (or plainly, more often maintained) stuff like PA will have more "pure" brass on it.

A pin or two might actually be the way to go, because it's way easier to hide the holes somewhere so they are not visible when the cowling is off. Thanks! smile.png

Thanks for the praise, really helps! I hope I will manage to get through the pesky Grey Knights soon, so that I can give the Brass Lions more attention they really deserve smile.png

The Dread needs more brass. Maybe make a few armor plates brass such as the leg armor.

See, I'm actually not so sure. Remember that the back part of the legs will soon be black washed leadbelcher dark silver, so the leg armor will be the only green spots of the lower half of the dread. Similarly on the top half, the exhausts will be silver brushed and "heat-washed" brass, the very top of the Dread will also have some stuff like smoke launchers, spotlights and such, which can elegantly add brass to the whole mix. I'd rather use brass for detail, keep the Dread more green, this is exactly why the DCCW is getting the "fingerless glove" treatment, as well msn-wink.gif

Thanks for the feedback, nonetheless, very much appreciated, Brother JeffJedi smile.png

Had an idea, wanted to use this skull for a Chappy for some time. Seems to fit a Dark Angels TDA Chappy and makes a good use of the Huron model. Obviously, the clawed had would get a nice crozius.

Thoughts? smile.png
Ancient and Venerable Brother Barachiel will receive this head and a guardian angel on his right shoulder. The top arch of the frontal cowl will be cut off to accomodate for the additional aperture on Brother Barachiel's helmet.

This TDA Dark Angel has finally ended up with one of the TDA Command Squad / Deathwing heads instead and will not be a Chaplain after all. Not a very playable mini, as TDA Captains are not worth the points at all, but can act as a Belial counts-as.

More from our deadly Brass Lions! Now, working on Sevrin Loth. Very much VIP, just toying with the "flame attack" idea. The bit is something I grabbed from a guy at an FLGS bits exchange and it was primed black already, so I have no clue whether it's something unique, like a GS sculpt or if it's from somewhere. Looks badass though!

Some more Grey Knights, from the same project as before. The customer wanted them untouched with the Quickshade on the Kal Drogo's face, on the cloth, the banners and the daemon sword. Apologies for the pic quality, I'm obviously shooting them with half a brick.

In waiting for the new Space Marine vanilla dex soon to be out, I'm making myself allies for my Templars and Brass Lions. This time, I went for bright colors. This is achieved through two layers of a wash (Druchii Violet and Casandora Yellow) over a good solid primer of GW spray white. The effect pretty much amazed me and I quickly went through Sterngurd and Masters of the Chapter, I also have Kantor and Lysander in the works, plus a Command Squad. Waiting for the new Tac / Stern / Vanguard Box to do more.

It's really easy to achieve, of course these are WIP, correction and detail will follow. However, I am very please with how striking they are turning out. And they won me a Kill Team tournament, too, so hey! biggrin.png

Details about this new Chapter will be found here:

You mean better than the Soul Drinkerish approximation I managed with the SM Painter Beta? tongue.png

Thanks! If you can, provide me with some feedback in the other thread about the fluff I came up with. Appreciated!

Wait...

They're Cobalt Fists and they're purple and yellow?

Yes biggrin.png

Let me link you:

Totally Cobalt Fists. In more ways that you'd know biggrin.png

I'm a translator / editor / linguist. Cheeky wordplay is what appeals to me, what can I say tongue.png

well you will have to get used to explaining it many times to people that do not know cobalt is also other colours, as myself an many other people assume blue when its said

Finally got my hands today on a Relic Contemptor Dreadnought. Since it was 38C / ~100F today, way too hot to airbrursh or paint, I sat down to put it together. It will be primed white and washed to follow the Cobalt Fists pattern.

It is articulated in the shoulder and elbow, rotates in waist, head also turns around. Waist is detachable, similarly lower half detaches from the base.

Here's a WIP!

The violet is just a single layer, so it will intensify. I do not care about the blotches - I actually like them and I'm thinking about making them part of a pattern, like oil / water smeared across a car's hood. We shall see. Til then, here goes, Cobalt Fists Relic Contemptor WIP.
