Sons of the Burning Flame Traitor Marine

Pig Of Sparta

Hi All,

Brother Ludovic over at the International Brotherhood of Hobbyists Forum held a Speed-painting Competition this weekend, called Brother Ludovic's RUSH!. We had from 12 noon on Saturday until 12 noon today to paint a mini from bare plastic/metal/resin to completion. This is what I came up with:

I have to thank RazakelXIII for the inspiration for the armour colour as well as Ron Saikowski from From The Warp for inspiration for how to build up the crimson.

Comments and Criticism are more than welcome as usual,

thanks

James

Thanks mate. The 'dark brass' is just Chainmail washed twice with Devlan Mud and then finished off with a wash of Badab Black. The red armour was built up from Rhinox Hide through Khorne and Mephiston Red to a Mephiston/Blood Red mix and then glazed with Baal Red to finish it. I let the first wash of Devlan Mud on the brass provide a little extra shading on the recesses of the red too.

Thanks

James

I've been looking at this guy for a while now. I don't really know how to put it... but you nailed it, man. Really well done. It seems that every time you put a brush to a miniature you forge its own identity. I'll have to keep this is mind and pick up some DV Chosen in the future as a creative exercise. Will we be seeing anymore Chaos from you?

@ A Kvlt Ghost: Rhinox Hide is great for basing red as it has a good ruddy brown colour to it once its dried. It also mixes with the basecoat reds really well when you're layering up too. And yes the brass really did start out as Chainmail, it's all down to the three washes after that. You could probably make a more bronze colour using Ogryn Flesh instead of Devlan Mud :).

@ Darth Potato: thank you sir :). I really wasn't sure how well the colour scheme would be received to be honest. I have been putting together a small Chaos Warband based solely on the push fit minis from Dark Vengeance and between those and another idea I think I've figured out how I'm gonna paint them, so yes more traitors are likely :).

Cheers

@ Cardinal Virtue: thank you, would you believe that the red is actually the result of successively lighter layers of red gently drybrushed onto the mini and then glazed to finish them?

@ Tarvik: Steal away my friend, I actually imagined the Sons of the Burning Flame as being a subsect/splinter of the Word Bearers Legion which is why they have such a similar main colour ;). If I can manage to get a look at (or better yet, get a copy of) the Chaos 'dex so I can write the army list, I have actually begun putting together a small warband of the Sons' which I'll probably get around to posting up at some point ;).

++ Update ++ This mini took first place in the competition ++ Update ++

thanks

James
