MagicMan
I just did this as a test scheme for my sniper scouts, since im not keen on the idea of stealthy dudes running around with neon yellow/blue/green costumes and hiding successfully. Just looking for a bit of feedback as to whether it looks right or not. I tried to give my scout a more subdued, but hopefully chapter recognizable appearance. So did i succeed? Or does he look like a Dark Angel who stole a shoulder pad? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265760-ultra-camoflauge/ Share on other sites

DrMidas
First- he looks sweet. Very nice foresty camo. Second, if you are concerned about looking like a Dark Angel, a suggestion; One thing I aimed for with my scouts was more of an urban camo look. Play with greys and light blues and you retain more of the "Ultramarines" color scheme while still being stealthy. Only problem is they actually blend in to my store's urban table from behind and I forget to have them shoot sometimes. My co-workers just looked at me funny when I burst into laughter for no apparent reason... old git
I'm of the opinion that scouts should use the proper camo for the environment they're operating in. For example, my marines are based to be in desert scheme, with dust and sand covering their lower legs as though they kick up the ground as they walk or run across it. To match and emphasise the idea, my scouts are painted in a desert camo scheme. You can't gather intel when the enemy can see you a mile away (and most militarys agree, the best intel comes from eyes on target). Personally I prefer the older interpretation of the codex astartes where various camo schemes are deemed appropriate for whatever terrain or mission the troops are engaged in (although my Red Scorpions are in their codex scheme, as decreed by Lord High Commander Culln). Nice painting of the cloak by the way. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265760-ultra-camoflauge/#findComment-3237683 Share on other sites
Honda
I think you did an amazing job on this guy and I really like what you did on the cloak. The only comment I would offer is that it seems like you could do a little bit of darkening in the recesses, just to give it a little more definition, but seriously, this is really good looking work. Bravo! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265760-ultra-camoflauge/#findComment-3237698 Share on other sites
Interrogator Stobz
Many modern day armies use a blackened/dessertified rank and unit insignia marikings when in the field. I would (If I were you in the context of your dilemma) paint the entire model as camo as possible. Then mark the 'U' and any squad markings in black over the camo. Remember, you are only as good as your worst bit when it comes to camoflage. (22 years in the light infantry taught me this). I paint my scouts green/black/grey and only camo the cloak similar to yours but I do have Dark Angels, so not the same problem (we can't even currently take cloaks :( too), and I don't even cam their faces (job fail). For you to make them even more effective and justifiable, paint the camo in the same tones/colours as any base they are on, makes them look like their local environment and not nessessarily the tabletops. Cool cloak btw ;) 2c Stobz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265760-ultra-camoflauge/#findComment-3237700 Share on other sites
Aqui
There's nothing about that Scout that implies Dark Angels to me at all. I really like it a lot :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/265760-ultra-camoflauge/#findComment-3237705 Share on other sites
