The Emperor's Shield Terminator (artwork)

Recommended Posts

Hello brothers and sisters of the B&C, long time lurker and a few poster I have never really posted anything of interest so for once I am going to post something that I had finished a while back and it is on deviant art, but I'm very proud of it. So don't judge me harshly, cause this is my first real digital drawing I have made in a long time, and most likely my last. So without further a do, here he is my Emperor's Shield!

Since he is my last real Space Marine that I will be drawing (mainly cause I have lost ideas and heart) I am glad to present him here. I may take requests, but there are no promises for it, since I'm doing a Star Craft 2 commision for someone, so enjoy C&C is always welcome

What's that huge thing in the background that looks like two giant pre-heresy heldrake ancestors making love?

XD that made me laugh, that is supposed the be an inquisitorial Aquila Transport ship, that way you can see the judgement of the Emperor coming for you

Thank you :D, honestly it has been a long time since i have heard compliments and already I'm getting a desire to draw more specially the character that Greyall drew as of late, my favourite World Eater, Crocell the Destroyer. So I may make a test or so like Greyall and whoever wins will get a drawing :P. Why haven't I posted this sooner :teehee:

That sounds like a great idea - just don't do too many in a short timeframe, eh? Don't want burnout, do we? :D

agreed I may do one every once and awhile, but I will be sure to keep it interesting, that I promise :P

Thank you everyone for the nice comments, it's good to have people appreciate someones work for a change. But the test or whatever you may call it, will be up in a few days, that I promise. Until then I hope more people comment and visit, always good to get more fans :P

Simply astounding artwork! :) I must get this faved on my dA account as well! I love the detail in this piece, especially the aforementioned Aquila lander and the Thunderhawks incoming to attack. :tu:

i know what you mean, i think the artist you thought of is Nicholas Kay. He's got this drawing on his website (www.nicholaskay.com) and speedpaints it on youtube...

yse you are correct the original drawing and fine colours if from nicholas, I simply reconsturcted it. Some people think it's copying, but i really just wanted to further my skills in digital and grphic drawing. Think what you may, me and nicholas have met before on some occasions, and he showed me how he did it, so yeah this was my very first drawing mainly from his more perfect version than mine. If anybody wants the whole story then just let me know, because I'm no thief and right now my self esteem at the thought of everyone appreciating what I had finally achieved, is really low ;)
So you're saying you did this from scratch using his picture as a reference? Or used his as a base and worked on top of it or what? ;)

So to explain I used it as a base and I worked on top of it, if you have the expert eye you can see some of the shadows aren't as "thick" or natural as his.

Then why does the picture in the first post have Nicholas Kay's signature in the bottom left corner? Seems a bit iffy to me.

ok so Nicholas's signature is on there, mainly cause he helped me "reconstruct" this image. I met him about a month or so ago, and I couldn't resist to ask if he could help me do something just like his image. Of course it took some convincing, but all in all he gave in. We basically used his as a template and he showed me all that he did (this was before I saw the speed painting) with his artwork. Now the deal we struck was that he keep his signature there, but that I have mine written somewhere else saying only used as template.

I simply reconsturcted it.

Ive just seen this artwork myself on Nicholas Kays website. It looks identical though, so how did you reconstruct it? Just curious...

Now basically, I first tried to draw it out myself without much success. But after I met him, he just brought up the finished work and we worked from their. What I did in the end was I drew it one last time and it came out really well, but the colours vary little since he helped me "redo" his artwork. Even though he is a god compared to me, I think it came out pretty well. But as a conclusion I would have to say, that only the colours are slightly different, not the marine or the tower.

I'm not sure two you're trying to fool here, but I've just spent the last fifteen minutes comparing the two ("yours" and the one on NK's website), side-by-side, and they're identical. The lightning from the hammer is identical (including the faded "ghost" trails), the place of the suction cups on the tentacles is identical, the writing on the parchment is identical, the colouring is identical too in all the places I looked at... and I could go on and on.

Meh. Disappointing to say the least ;)

EDIT: I can understand that each and every one of us would like to have the same skills as those experienced artists out there and would like to have a moment in the spotlight, but using someone else's art and saying it's yours and then trying to justify yourself is just wrong.

well you can be disspointed if you like, but I'm quite proud of what I have achieved here, only the God-Emperor and myself judge myself too harshly. Besides I wouldn't have posted it, if I weren't proud, so sorry for the dissapointment

To cut my losses, and it seems people obviously people don't believe me, I will make another picture this time not reconstructed. Sadly it will be awhile since I have to get new equipment, but never the less, it will be done
