Lucifer Pattern Dreadnaught

Got a question, what is a Lucifer pattern Dreadnaught? the Big book states that it is older than the contemptor Pattern (please tell me its not the rogue trader Egg on legs) ????

It may just be a name for a specific load out on a Contemptor frame.

Maybe a Blood Angels only one with a Twin-linked Assault Cannon arm and Fleet...

a TL Kheres Assault Cannon could be scary; all contemptors have Fleet to begin with btw. maybe Scout or outflank/acute senses to make it more like a Baal predator?

a lucifer pattern could also be a night lords' deep striking contemptor? one that deep strikes on its own would be scary cool

The venerable Brother in question is Juljak Nul, the Storm Walker. first Master of Ordanance of the 12th Legion (so nothing to do with Blood Angels)

He was one of the first of the Legion to be interned within a Dreadnought frame, and served for more than a century within a Lucifer Pattern chassis. Which sugests to me that it is probably the oldest type of Dreadnought used by the Legions.

The Contempter is the most advanced Dread chassis. and 40K ones may be of the older desighn.A boxy Dread frame is described in the Iron Within short story.

From my understanding of the HH book, the Contemptor was a deluxe, monstruous version of the normal dreadnought, that was somewhat a novelty during the crusade, and produced in few numbers compared to the demand. The Lucifer pattern Dread is the one that we all know and love :P

It's strange that a heresy-era model is newer than the actual 40K stuff, but the idea is that it became unpractical to the Imperium to continue manufacture those.

Or they just lost the knowledge to produce and keep them running. It's not really about new but advanced stuff "now" lost in 40K. Makes sense and I won't be surprised to see more since the Mechanicum will surely get new army entries. Among these there must be walkers of many kinds...

In fact FW seems to had made the Contemptor design to be used in normal 40K as well, since the first model from them have the aquila. So there must be still some around.

@Loerenzen, yeah, you're right - seems like that by the purpose of ruling, every Dread design (RT, actual, etc) is considered the same, except Contemptors for the Dread Talon.
