Roma
So I understand the basics of making a 2-part mold. But I dont know what kind of materials should be used. Can the mold, and what you are poring inside it to make a duplicate be the same silicone rubber or whatever the material is called? Or should they be diffirent, in which case let me know what to use for what. The duplicates should be as detailed as possible, and about the same weight and "feel" as a GW mini. While it isnt illegal, I doubt the staff will take kindly to any kind of molding, especially since I would eventually like to move on to molding whole models and vehicles rather than just a bunch of legs. Color doesnt matter as I will paint them. So please let me know, also we dont have a wallmart here in ireland, so finding these kind of things may prove difficult, if you know where i can get them, let me know please. thanks. I live near dublin city. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266004-what-materials-should-i-use-to-cast-miniatures/ Share on other sites
Brother Lorien
Just as a quick up front in-thread warning: Green Stuff & Resin casting: A tried and true hobby "tool" and a hotly debated topic on the B&C over the past 7 years. Currently you are allowed to discuss casting techniques. Given it's volume out on the web chances are you know how to do it already. You can even give tutorials on how to build moulds and the best resin in your opinion to use. If at any time a mod feels that a casting post has gone beyond the realm of "personal use" it is at the moderators discretion as to whether the thread will stay open. Keep in mind that counterfeiting (recasting and selling for your own profit) is illegal and Games Workshop will prosecute people for it. If it is shown that a user account or thread is dealing with casting for the purpose of counterfeiting the user account will be dealt with severely! Then the topic at hand: I do not see you mention Resin, which is probably the best thing to use when making casts of your own material. Forgeworld does it, GW does it and tons of other companies do it. And where to get it? art&craft co Ireland The above was found after a quick google search on "casting resin in ireland" Marco Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266004-what-materials-should-i-use-to-cast-miniatures/#findComment-3240596 Share on other sites

Brother Lorien
Well you wont ask for resin plastic, you be asking for resin powder, and yes: Silicone is mostly used for casting purposes as it is flexible and lets you release the casted item easily. If you check the link i posted you'll find allmost all you need. Lorenzen
silicone rubber is used for the mold itself, 2 part "liquid plastic" resin is used for the actual cast and mold release is essential for the 2 sides of the mold to not stick to each other when you are getting them to set. you can get everything from mbfg.co.uk but im not sure if they ship to ireland resin casting isnt something that can be done particulary quickly and the more effort you put into each stage, the better the results should be.
