jabbawox
Hey guys, a while ago a was playing around on the marine painter and came up witha custom paint job, which looked like this: So when i got my next set of models, i decided to make a prototype of it. Having never painted red or white before as i mainly paint Ultras, i had no idea how to basecoat it and using black didn't work the best but here is the outcome. http://imageshack.us/a/img41/5756/darkmaraudersprototype.jpg Anyways, what do you guys think of it and what could i do to make it look better for furure models? Olis
It looks nice, as a colour scheme, but that has got to be quite fiddly to paint on. I'd suggest simplifying the scheme a little to make the painting easier on yourself. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3240679 Share on other sites
jabbawox
YeahSome parts were a little tricky to reach but hey, who doesn't like a bit of a challenge? <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3240682 Share on other sites
Olis
Fair enough, go for it. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3240687 Share on other sites
Aqui
I like it! <_< Â I was told once that basecoating in grey can help with painting white. Not sure if that's true or not. Perhaps grey basecoat, thin layers of white over the top and then paint in the red bits after? sockwithaticket
Ceramite White basecoat + 3 or 4 thin coats of Vallejo Model Colour White gets you a very good white. jabbawox
Taking both tips and with a bit experimentation as i dont use any brand paints, i am going to start on my next proto model. when i have it started i will post some pics  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3241038 Share on other sites
jabbawox
I found an old Marine which needed a repainting, so i ahve basecoated him light grey as it was a combination of the two tips i was given and will be planning on main colouring(?) him soon  Yeah, he's an oldie :)  http://imageshack.us/a/img10/66/dscf9360i.jpg  http://imageshack.us/a/img835/2781/dscf9359f.jpg  i do realise that i missed some spots Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3241172 Share on other sites

Studio Silvernale
I rather like the white/red scheme. I does make me think of Rachet from Transformers Prime tho.. =D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3241213 Share on other sites

jabbawox
SO first part for suggestions, i can easily create the paint for bolters but a missile launcher, i'm not to sure. here's a side on view of it so if you wish, you can see it better for ideas  http://imageshack.us/a/img593/1975/dscf9364a.jpg     note. the pictures were playing up so had to make two posts :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3241994 Share on other sites
Kronus Stormbringer
Hmm im not the best painter in the world by far and im always looking at ways to make things easier for myself, if your looking to continue with this scheme id suggest you basecoat your models using skullwhite spray from GW or another suitable base spray, that way you only have to shade the white, then you can paint on the reds with several thin coats before shading and high lighting. jabbawox
that is a good point, Kronus, but the way in which i paint marines using a slightly darker undercoat makes it easier as i leave small gaps in the painting process to show the darker undercoat giving an effect of shadow. it's more prominent when i use black undercolour, but i'll be sure to use this idea on future models and see what the turnout will be :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/266010-custom-paint-job/#findComment-3242003 Share on other sites
